Reception Class

This week, we explored The Gingerbread Man, our first Drawing Club story! Children listened, drew and wrote magic codes to retell and innovate the tale. In provision, they made spiced dough, practised letter formations and used stick puppets to retell the story. On Thursday, we baked and enjoyed our own gingerbread biscuits!

Year 1 & 2

Year 1 and Year 2 had a fantastic time on their recent trip to Haslemere Museum! They explored the fascinating world of toys from the past, discovering what materials were used to make them and why. The children especially enjoyed playing with Victorian toys like spinning tops, doll houses, and Jacob’s ladders. Later, they visited the museum’s taxidermy gallery, where they were amazed by the variety of animals on display. They were able to share their knowledge about taxidermy and discuss why it was important to Victorians, who used it to study animals and display them for education and curiosity. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect their classroom learning with real-life examples.

Year 3 & 4

Year 3 and 4 have had a fantastic week!

Year 3 have made great friends with Steve the Skeleton while learning all about the functions of the skeleton, as well as the different bones and muscles in the human body.

Meanwhile, Year 4 have been exploring the digestive system, sequencing each stage of the process and discovering how our bodies break down food.

⚽ Year 5 & 6 Boys Football Tournament

On Friday 7th November, the Sandfield Football Squad proudly represented our school at the Guildford Schools Football Tournament. This annual event is always a challenging fixture, with many opposing teams featuring experienced club-level players.

Despite the tough competition, our boys showed tremendous resilience and teamwork. They defended with determination and attacked with confidence, working cohesively throughout each match. Sandfield managed to draw 2 out of 5 games, conceding only 5 goals across the tournament—a commendable achievement!

A heartfelt thank you to the families who came to cheer from the sidelines, and to Kate Oliver and Mike Cuin for their invaluable support. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the experience and demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and team spirit.

Year 5 & 6

As part of their World War II topic, Year 5 and 6 visited Henley Fort for an immersive Home Front experience. Pupils took part in a range of engaging practical activities including putting out simulated fires, practising grenade throwing, experiencing a blackout during the Blitz, exploring an Anderson shelter and manning checkpoints.

It was a memorable day that brought history to life and deepened their understanding of life on the Home Front.

School Meals

Don't forget to order your child's school meal for next week!

Reminders about Medicines in School

Staff are happy to supervise your child taking or applying medication during the school day. To ensure safety and accuracy, please follow these guidelines:

Complete the online Request for Medicines to be Administered Form
All medicines, creams, ointments, tablets etc. must be brought into school in a clear container
All medicines must be in a pre-measured clear syringe that your child can administer themselves
Please label the container with the following:
- Your child’s name
- Date of birth
- Amount of medicine in the syringe (e.g., 5ml)
- Date and time the medicine is to be taken

Any medication in tablet form must be put into a small and sealed envelope with the same label as above.

Tubes or tubs of creams, ointments etc must also be labelled.

Please note:
We cannot accept bottles of unmeasured medication. Young children may not be able to measure the correct amount using a spoon, so to ensure the correct dosage, only pre-measured syringes are accepted. If medication is not provided in this way, you will be asked to return with the correct measured dosage.
