For the Past 2,000 years, Scientists have been trying to figure out the cause of the biodiversity.
In the mid-1700s, Charles Bonnet theorized that there were catastrophes then the animals changed.
Jean-Baptiste Lamarck challenged Bonnet with 3 ideas: Organisms strive to improve themselves, most used body structures the unused wasted away, use and disuse, then once a structure is modified the modification goes to the offspring.
Jean published his report in 1809 his work helped Charles Darwin although his work was disproved by August Weismann.
Charles darwin joined a group that travels around the world on the ship HMS Beagle he got information on plants and animals from the shores.
Charles Darwin was intrigued by by the Finches he observed on the different islands with their different colors, and figured out that the finches have their own niche.
Then he later figured out that the finches were entirely different species
Darwin got home and studied his notes and conversed with colleagues one of them being Charles Lyell, then he figured out that Geology changes slowly.

Artificial selection is about how the people choose the most desirable trait for food and animals. Artificial selection caused domestic animals.
Population control- the population can go so far that the resources are limited, but the population can change by dramatic changes.
Darwin and Alfred Wallace came up with a theory called evolution and Darwin gets the credit because of his findings ten years before Wallace's work.
Natural Selection- Four main points
1. There are variations in the populations.
2. Some variations are favorable.
3. Not all young produced in each generation can survive.
4. Individuals that survive and reproduce are those with favorable variations.
Stop and Go
-Gradualism proposed slow changes among a population
- The Contradiction of that was punctuated equilibrium States little to no changes and then rapid/abrupt changes.

-The natural selection of all the different animals is explained and tells you how each selection affects all the different animals in different ways. For example, ostriches are able to escape predators more easily. This section also talks about the offsprings and how they survive or how they don't survive.
-This new section starts off by explaining gradualism and how when new species evolve as the genomes of two populations differentiate over enormous spans of time. Two scientists made a theory they called punctuated equilibrium that states that populations remain genetically stable for long periods of time, but interrupted by brief periods of rapid genetic change. The two scientists had to search for evidence to support the theory.
