Instructions for Making Homemade Slime
Can’t watch the video or missed some of the steps? Here is a detailed guide on how to make slime for kids:

Make an easy and fun whale shark craft while learning all about this endangered gentle giant.

1Learn about whale sharks.

Before starting this craft, you can learn more about whale sharks. We've listed some helpful resources below.

2Draw a whale shark outline.

You can also print out this whale shark outline on A4 or Letter size paper.

3Draw white spots.

Whale sharks are characterized by light yellow spots all over its body. Draw spots on the whale shark using light yellow or white crayon. It is important to use regular crayons, not the washable type. Make the spots as heavy as you can so that they show clearly after being painted over.

4Prepare the paint.

Water down some black tempera or poster paint and mix well.

5Paint the whale shark.

Paint the whale shark. The spots which were made using wax crayons will resist the watered down paint. Don't worry about painting over the edges as the whale shark will later be cut out.

6Let the paint dry.

Once you're done painting your whale shark, set it aside to dry.

7Make a background.

Prepare a sheet of 9" x 12" drawing paper or construction paper for your picture's ocean background.

Using the same crayon resist technique, draw waves with white or perhaps dark blue crayon. Paint over the entire paper with watered down blue tempera or poster paint.

1Punch a hole on the bowl.

Punch a small hole at the center of a paper bowl using the point of a pencil.

2Paint the paper bowl.

Paint the outside of the paper bowl with tempera or poster paint. Jellyfishes come in various colors. The most popular ones are pink, blue and purple but you can always paint your jellyfish the way you like.

3Paint some details.

Details like dots are easy and fun to make. You can use a paint brush, your fingers, or a cotton swab to paint them on your paper bowl.

Some jellyfishes have stripes, others have V-shaped markings and some have a flower-shaped marking at the center.

4Prepare the string.

Cut string to a length of about 10 inches. Tie one end of the string to a paper clip or button.

5Attach the string.

Insert the free end of the string from inside the paper bowl, through the center hole. Pull all the way through—the paper clip or button serves as a stopper.

If you'd like to further secure the string in place, tape or glue the paper clip or button on the inside of the paper bowl.

6Create the tentacles.

To make the jellyfish's tentacles, cut eight or more long strips out of crepe paper, tissue paper or plastic bags.

7Glue the first tentacle.

Glue one end of a tentacle on the inside of your paper bowl, placing it close to the center of the bowl.

8Glue the rest of the tentacles.

Glue the tentacles one at a time at the center of your paper bowl.

9Check out your jellyfish!

Once the glue dries, check out your jellyfish by carefully turning the paper bowl upside down. Hold or hang your jellyfish by the string.

10Add a face.

Don't forget to draw a funny face using crayons, markers or paint.

Instead of drawing the face, you can also glue a pair of wiggle eyes and a short length of string for the mouth.

11Make more!

These paper bowl critters are really easy to make so make lots of them! Hang them from the ceiling or from a railing to give your little corner of the house a summer or under-the-sea feel. A soft breeze will make them turn round and round and their tentacles do dance around in the air.
