There’s less than 20,000 people with hepatitis e (very rare)

Hepatitis A- anyone who has not been vaccinated or previously infected can get infected with hepatitis A

 

Hepatitis B- this virus is 100 times more easily transmitted than HIV. It can be passed through blood and their bodily fluids

 

Hepatitis C- this is the most common blood-borne infection in the United States affecting 3.2 million people in the U.S. and 170 million people worldwide

 

Hepatitis D- anyone who is not immune to HBV is at risk

 

Hepatitis E- mainly found in regions where low standards of sanitation promote the transmission of the virus

 

If contaminated through infectious blood- don’t share drug needles, razors, toothbrushes, not touching spilled blood

 

Vaccines- but only available for A and B still currently experts are trying to develop for C, D, and E

-If you have a lot of discomfort then bed rest would be recommended

-If you have diarrhea or vomiting, you’ll be put on a special diet

-You can get the vaccination, available for children 12 and 18 months or adults

 

-Antiviral medications are used to help treat the patient (this cost a lot due to its use for several months or years)

-It is required to get regular medical evaluations and monitoring to determine if the virus is progressing

-CDC recommends vaccinations for all newborns and for all healthcare and medical personnel

 

-Treatment includes a combination of antiviral drug therapies

-If someone develops cirrhosis (scarring of the liver) or liver disease because of hepatitis C, they could be a candidate for a liver transplant

 

-A medication called alpha interferon is used to treat the patient, but 60 to 97% of people develop hepatitis D again after treatment

 

-There is no specific medical therapies to treat this because it is often acute, but people with this infection are advised to get adequate rest, drink plenty of fluids, get enough nutrients, and avoid alcohol.

-          Loss of appetite 

-          Unexplained weight loss

 

A: derives from infection (HAV) most commonly transmitted by consuming food or water contaminated by feces from a person infected from the same

B: derives from infection (HBV) transmitted through puncture wounds or contact with infectious bodily fluids (blood, saliva, and semen), injection drug use, sexually, or sharing razors with infected increase the risk

C: (HCV) transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids  

D: (HDV or delta) contracted through puncture wounds or contact with infected blood also

E: waterborne disease (HEV) found in areas with poor sanitation, typically caused by ingesting fecal matter
Nonviral Hepatitis Cause:

Alcohol- excessive alcohol consumption because it causes liver to swell/ become inflamed or other toxic causes like overuse of medication of exposure to poisons. This leads to cirrhosis which is 

a chronic disease of the liver caused by degeneration of cells, inflammation, and thickening of tissue from alcohol/hepatitis.
