I agree that organizations need a compass that helps guide them in the direction they should go. If they don't have a direction in mind, there will be mindless wandering and achievement would be sparse. While each staff member's true north is different based on their role, the true north for us as a district is to inspire and challenge all students to reach their true potential. My true north is supporting our superintendent, as well as other staff, in the best way that I can to help achieve our goal. While every decision can be looked at differently, my end goal is to make the best decision based on the information I have and support our staff, parents, and students.

Carol ~

Yes, I am a planner but I have learned over the years to always expect the unexpected. Yes, sometimes the unexpected can derail me but I work to regain the focus and work through the situation. My unexpected could be last minute changes to board meeting documents or confusion on room reservations. You look at the situation and work through it the best you can and breath when it's all over!

Carol ~

To build trust with colleagues and supervisors you have to prove you are trustworthy. It could be through keeping confidential information, being loyal to your job, meeting the expectations of your supervisor and others, and your working relationship you have with your boss. Managing up means having that working relationship with your boss where you understand their priorities, work preferences, and communication style. My job is meet his expectations and contribute to his success.

Carol ~

Change is inevitable. In order to stay resilient during challenges at work, I try to be proactive with things I know are likely to take place. There are instances where I am count off guard with last minute request. This is why I try to maintain a relationship with my team and others outside my area. That way I know I am not out there alone. I am able to reach out for help when needed. Not being able to stay resilient can cause a significant amount of stress in ones life. Therefore, it is important to engage in some form of self-care.

Phyllis

I am a planner who ensures I have enough time for projects to account for the unexpected. When unforeseen situations arise, I first determine where they fit on my priority list. This requires clear communication with everyone involved. From there, I assess whether I need to adjust my workload, create new plans, or seek assistance. Embracing flexibility is key to successfully managing challenges.

Phyllis
