         <description><![CDATA[<div>Carbon does not form ionic compounds because&nbsp;<br>1) If it gained 4 electrons, it would achieve octet, but it would be unstable because it would have 2 extra electrons, and carbon hexaprotonic, and it cannot hold 10 electrons together.<br>2) If it lost 4 electrons, it would require a lot of energy, which is not available.<br>Hence, carbon cannot bond as ions.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Carbon does not form ionic bonds because :-<br>1) Upon gaining 4 electrons carbon achieves an octet but it would have a net negative charge. This destabilizes it.<br>2) Upon losing 4 electrons it stabilizes, but it achieves a net positive charge. This destabilizes it again.<br>These are the primary reasons Carbon cannot achieve an ionic bond.</div>]]></description>
