"It is an honor I dream not of" (I.iii)

When Julliet politely declines her mother's suggestion to consider marriage, an visible divide emerges between mother and daughter. Although they do not begin arguing, Lady Capulet clearly has a different vision of Juliet's future than Juliet does. Lady Capulet expects her daughter to fulfill society's expectations and marry at 14 similar to her experience. However, Juliet maturely informs her mother marriage is not a priority. Thinking her daughter's reality will mirror her past experiences, Lady Capulet does not understand her daughter as Lord Capulet does. He recognizes she is not ready by declining Paris's marriage proposal since he understands the responsibility of marriage.
