This battle started because Abraham Lincoln wanted to secure and take control of the capital of the Confederate. Once the union troops arrived in Richmond, they were hindered by the troops of the Confederate. The south eventually finds land by Antietam Creek to attempt to take over, and the Union responds to their attacks the next morning. The Confederates lost due to being overpowered by the amount of Union members. This started because a Confederate group was trying to obtain resources for war, which lead to the two troops clashing and going into battle. It ended with the south trying to invade the northern states, but failing. The Union digs tunnels under the Confederate land, and fills them with explosives, blasting open the ground. The Union try using as much men as they could at the time to fend off the Confederates, but eventually have to retreat from the battle.
