Stellarium...it's fantastic!!
Comparing the three images of Ursa major it's we can noticed that the constellation's position changed. In particular, constellation had a rotation of 180° counterclockwise in a few hours

I liked that it was free. Has anyone else used the Mac version? I felt it was not that great to use. Will try the windows version when at work and see if I like it better. I have used similar tools on the iPads that are much smoother but they cost money.

I had some troubles in downloading Stellarium so I tried using other apps. It is clear that the Polaris is like fixed while Ursa and the whole sky rotate around it. Above all to see this it is sufficient to spend some hours in countryside watching stars. It is also much more enjoying than using a PC or mobile phone.

I have downloaded stellarium but have still much to learn about it.
It has been very fascinating to observe the rotating constellations while the polaris remains fixed.
It is very worrying to think that new generations will not be able to admire stars because of the increasing light pollution.

I have found out Stellarium just few days ago reading "the patterns in the sky" .. It's amazing...I could have stayed all the day long playing! :)
Following the three different positions of the Ursa Major, after a slow movement ( around the polar starr)
in a few hours, is an interesting way to understand where some stars and us are in time and space. The slow rotation from right to left made me compare it to a dance figure.

I installed Stellariun and used it with constellation related activities.
In a box the youngsters would find EVA stars and mount the format of the drawn constellation, first they would look at the stellariun and then represent it using material.

I worked on Stellarium by setting the position of my village (Tuscania, VT). I'll show you what I observed at night (2017/03/01-02 10 pm, 0 am, 2 am), looking at the North and focusing attention on Ursa Major constellation. The Ursa Major seems rotating anticlockwise, together with all the other stars.... the only fixed star is in the Ursa Minor constellation....

I had used Stellarium some time ago. It is an exciting program with the great interest of being opensource!. I did the activity with the Mac OS version.
Taking the three screenshots at different times with the reference of the Ursa Major allows us to appreciate very well its anticlockwise rotation and the fixed position of Polar star.

I have been using Stellarium for a long time. It is useful for amateur sky observers and our lessons that are about astronomy subjects. I’ve started to use this program more after I bought a telescope.

With this challenge we can observe that our sky view is turning around Polaris sky clearly.

The position of Ursa Major has changed evidently between March 1 at 10pm and March 2 at 0 am. At 2 am on March 2 the constellation is aligned with North.

It is quite difficult for me to highlight the difference among the three pictures taken. Of course, it is evident how Ursa Major changes it position as time goes by... In the first picture it seems to look to the north. Differently, in the second it has rotated towards east and, finally, in the third one it seems to look to the south (anti clockwise rotation).
This is the first time I'm using this software and I can tell I'm going to let my students use it (even if astronomy is not my subject of teaching, but I can set it in English), because it caught my attention so strongly that I'm sure it will be the same for my students (and they will be much able than me to use it!)

Stellarium is an easy way to introduce astronomy ICT tool for children (7th grade) to understand the different movements in the sky. We can see different positions of Ursa Major around the polaris star.

If the installation is not possible we can show the students a demonstration of stellarium´s potential.

Stellarium is a really great tool! Very good to learn/teach astronomy.
I saw Ursa Major rotating in Stellarium, been outside and found Ursa Major constellation but couldn't take a picture (to much light or need a better camera) .

Having the ability to know everything that is known above our heads is a unique opportunity for students who want to approach the discovery of this field.
