Land owners took away the Irish land who weren’t able to afford their rent. By doing this the landowners became richer and were able to afford the other food. The Famine 
The famine started in the 1800s. It started when sir Walter Raleigh Brant potatoes to Ireland for the first time. The Irish People loved them a lot. But then they depended on it too much. The Irish people ate potatoes all of the time. They ate it for breakfast, for lunch and for dinner! I can’t believe it, they didn’t even know that there was even something called potato before the plantation! Then one day there were no more potatoes. The people suffered from hunger because they had nothing to eat. All they had planted was potatoes! A man brought potato to the Irish people and the loved this food but sadly the potatoes started to fail growing and the Irish people had no food left because they relied on the potatoes and had forgotten about there main food source. Many people died in the famine.

The famine was not a problem for the rich English and wealthy Irish because they could always order food  from different country’s more like England or Scotland
