Irish potatoe crop failed as it had a disease (1846- 1849) leaving many Irish people hungry as many people relied on them. Soon the hunger became unbearable. Prices of other food went up. As the Irish needed to afford other food the ended up not being able to aford their rent. Land owners took away the Irish land who weren’t able to afford their rent. By doing this the landowners became richer and were able to afford the other food. Great Famine caused the deaths of up to a million people. No idea though :

The Famine started in 1846 as in the plantations Sir Walter Raleigh brought potatoes and tobacco to Ireland. Irish people then survived on potatoes and when the potato crop failed they had nothing to eat. Lots of people didn’t survive and this became known as The Great Famine. The cause of the famine was a fungus called potato blight. This fungus was originally brought from North America. It made its way to Ireland in the summer of 1845. In those times it wasn’t unusual to see crops that failed and they thought that it was just an isolated event.

The Famine happened in the 1800’s. It started when the potato crops failed, and it went downhill from there. As everybody ate potatoes, when the crops failed, people began to starve. It is also known as The Great Famine. Last year, I read a book called ‘Slice of the Moon’, and it was about The Great Famine. In the book, a young girl named Slim and her family had to go on a boat to America to escape the Famine. This was called emigrating, and people bought tickets to get on these boats. Most people emigrated to America. This happened to most families in real life, too. On the boat, the conditions would be so bad, that most wouldn’t survive. Even if you made it to America, you probably wouldn’t survive for too long. Due to the Famine, there were nearly a million deaths.

The famine in Ireland was where the landowners would make the Irish people pay rents which they could not afford so they gave up their crops instead. Soon, the potatoes got a disease and the Irish could no longer pay their fees. While they were all starving to death the landowners were getting richer and getting more food because they were taking back the land of which the Irish could not pay for. When alot of the population had died out Irish families began to emigrate to America and no longer live in their home land. That is why a lot of American people have Irish ancestors.

The Irish People loved them a lot. But then they depended on it too much. The Irish people ate potatoes all of the time. They ate it for breakfast, for lunch and for dinner! I can’t believe it, they didn’t even know that there was even something called potato before the plantation! Then one day there were no more potatoes. The people suffered from hunger because they had nothing to eat. All they had planted was potatoes! And that’s how the famine started!

The famine Was a difficult time for Irish people, there was barely food for the Irish people. Many people died of hunger, a fever and the only food they really had was soup. As a lot of the families in Ireland were poor , the rules were very strict.if you were to steal a sheep you would have to face 7 months in jail. A man brought potato to the Irish people and the loved this food but sadly the potatoes started to fail growing and the Irish people had no food left because they relied on the potatoes and had forgotten about there main food source. Many people died in the famine.
The famine happened during the 1900 centuries
The famine was not a problem for the rich English and wealthy Irish because they could always order food from different country’s more like England or Scotland

THE ENDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!

A very long time ago, Ireland survived on potatoes. But then, the potatoes stopped growing, so lots of people died, and the population went down quite a bit. One million to be exact. The famine was also known as the Great Famine, or the Great Hunger. The famine was really long, and lasted from 1846 - 1849. Many people migrated to different countries, trying to escape the famine.Thankfully, the potatoes are still growing, and along with that many other delicious foods.

All Irish ate potatoes but one day they stopped growing. Everyone was left starving, The famine started in 1846. Everybody survived on potatoes. Potatoes were their #1 crop to grow.. Alot of people began to eat grass as an only option. People didn’t eat any other plants or crops because they were unsure if they were edible or not. Many people died of starvation. Fungus destroyed all the crop. Most people ate nothing but potatoes back then. Lots of people sold potatoes for money. So In the end nobody had either money, food or homes because everyone had to pay a landlord. (Except for those who owned their own land and built their houses on it)
