His father, Count Sylvan Clairmont was born in France, and his father, the head of the Clairmont clan, was a man that stood tall and tolerated no one’s bullshit. Not even humans. His grandfather made it his mission to make sure they blended into society as seamlessly as possible, but all while maintaining a certain status among the vampiric clans that roamed France around that time. 

While his grandmother basically ran a little town south of France with vampires they had either turned and/or rogue vampires that needed a home. She provided that for them.

The legacy his grandfather wanted to leave behind, was to ensure not only his family’s place in both the human world and the vampire world. But he also wanted to ensure that their history was as important as the humans. To him that meant providing soldiers for the humans during their time of war. 

And his son, Sylvan and his sons were supposed to follow in those footsteps.

But that all changed when his father met his mother on a trip to London.

And his mother, human at the time, born Lee Yeora, had arrived in London for a fresh start after fleeing her arranged marriage. She changed her name to Olivia Lee and started her life over. When they met, they felt like it was meant to be and they couldn’t be apart even with the dangers of being together. 

Sylvan knew his father wouldn’t approve, after all he was already wedded to another vampire. But that was just someone his parents picked, he was truly in love with Olivia. So he turned her. The love of his life. And as fate would have it, everyone in their family was against their union. So he took her as his concubine and then decided to make her his only wife instead when she was with child, after all no one could truly tell him what to do. 

The family rebelled, it wasn’t that his father was a bad son, because he wasn’t. But vampires are very traditional and take loyalty to the next level. They fought, his mother and his father, and before they knew it, it was like the once close knit family they had. Had completely shattered.

His parents ran away to South Korea when war in France grew much too dangerous. And they did not want their sons to get caught up in the misery of humans. And with them not getting along much with his grandfather, his mother was paranoid he would do something to harm them. Though, their move did not make it any better. 

They had to integrate into a society that only his mother was used to. She was pregnant with him at the time and so he wasn’t aware of what any of them had to endure before he was introduced to the world. 

And amidst all of it, they had their first son on a night where the moon was bleeding red.

Taehyung was born Yeon-hu Lee, and the first few years of his life was all a very traumatizing experience. Some would say he was being dramatic but he would say, day dreaming about getting a taste of your friends blood was rather abnormal. 

At least, it was until he stopped being around humans unless he needed to be and just stuck to his family. His brother became his best friend. They weren’t considered a noble family, but it was very apparent that they had enough to appease whoever was in power to leave them alone.

When Taehyung was 18 in vampire and human years, he noticed a shift between his parents that he couldn’t comprehend. But they all ignored it because they didn’t talk about it. But they were a family so they stuck together….right?

But when Taehyung was 118, his father left. He just never came back home one day. It didn’t affect their life per se, after all, it had been years now that their little family hadn’t been the same. But the questions swirled around his head like a dark cloud, he didn’t understand. And no one seemed to want to understand, his brother and his mother acted like it was all okay. 

As if their lives didn’t change forever when that happened. 

— A pivotal moment in his life came some time after Lunar City.

But that didn’t mean his life was perfect. In fact, his life was anything but. On the outside, everyone thought his family was great, that it was lovely. But what they didn’t know, was that behind the picket fence and cheerful smiles. His mother was a monster ever since his father left.

She was abusive towards him and his older brother. More so to him than his older brother, who always put his brother in a position to defend him. Taehyung couldn’t defend himself at the time—not because he couldn’t but because she was his mother— so his brother always had to step in. He always ended up with the bruises that were meant for Taehyung. His brother was his hero and he made sure he always told him that. But he didn’t think that saying it was enough so he wanted to prove to his brother he could protect him too. 

He thought the best way would be to protect his brother, like he used to protect him. But he soon found out that; that was not the case. And he would never get that chance.

He would never forget that night, they were arguing and she was getting violent out of desperation. She liked starting arguments with them, it was like she knew exactly what to say to get to them. 

Taehyung hated it so he tried to not indulge, but the more he ignored her, the more she got handsy. She knew how to get a rise out of him, especially when it came to his empathy for humans.

She was convinced their father left because he was seduced by a human, and she wouldn’t let it go. And Taehyung had enough. The words tumbled out of his mouth before he could stop them.

“I can see why dad left….you’re pathetic.”

The slap that he received a few seconds after stung but his entire world shattered in that moment when he stumbled back to look at his brother. The elder didn’t say a word and Kian couldn’t bring himself to utter a single word either. Because he knew if he even attempted, he’d crumble in tears. 

That night he watched his brother escort their mother out of his room to hers. That night his brother stopped being his protector and became their mothers golden child.

And then there’s him, the distant rebellious little brother. Talk about family issues. 

But at least she left him alone. They both did. For a long time, his family meant everything to him, despite all the pain. But he came to realize that he didn’t matter much in return.

And when they entered Lunar City after living in hiding among humans for so long. She wasted no time taking advantage of the new found privilege and power that vampires now had access to. She made sure they were settled more than comfortably in this newly created society.

After living in a world where he watched beings who are considered weak continue to prosper, and thrive. It made him laugh that those same beings were who they fed from. And then he thought about humans who wanted to be vampires, longed for it as he longed for the feel of being human. He understood the allure. He was a vampire, after all. He just wished he didn’t.

Because he could and would never be human. While they would give such a precious thing away so willingly.

There were many things that humans took for granted. He could admit that. And vampires only wanted to make sure they survived. He knew it needed to happen but he didn’t have to like everything.

The sun was barely peeking from the horizon when he stepped out onto the balcony to find his lover against the wall, staring off at the view. His shoulders sagged in relief as he made his way over, wrapping his arms around the human to embrace him and press his face in their neck.

“Why are you roaming around at this hour?” the vampire asked in a murmur.

Taehyung barely registered what the other was saying to him, being too focused on his scent instead. He continued to sniff at his lover's neck as he just knew something was definitely off about it. But not in a bad way, if anything the vampire was wondering why it seemed to be pulling him in more than usual. He was almost drowning in it and it only seemed to be getting stronger. The more he kept inhaling, the more he just wanted to rip the humans clothes off and take him right then and there.

His eyes flashed purple before he bit into the skin of his boyfriend’s neck, not deep enough for it to bleed—even if he wanted to sink his fangs into the luscious skin to get a taste—but deep enough to leave a mark behind. The human stilled and he pulled back to swipe his tongue over the mark, something inside him fluttering because the human was his.

The vampire paused as the realization suddenly hit him, making him shift their position. Taehyung released his hold on his lover’s waist and pulled his face from their neck before he took a few steps back, enough to be able to drag his gaze down the human’s body pressed against the wall. From head to toe. Almost as if he was appraising him. 

He took in his lover’s appearance quietly once again, smirking in amusement before he walked back over and pressed both his palms against the wall next to the human’s head, leaning in to latch his dark gaze onto the others.

“I’m going to ask again.” He spoke calmly, yet sternly as he stared at his lover intensely, “why were you really roaming around at this hour?” 

Hearing the human’s response made the vampire stare at him, before a short giggle left his lips. Not only at the human’s words but also at how adorable he looked just now. He quickly cleared his throat, hoping his giggle wasn’t caught. With each word the human kept spewing, Taehyung couldn’t help but stare fondly. 

Then he looked up and they locked eyes. He looked really pretty with green eyes and dark hair, the vampire couldn’t deny that at all. He knew he couldn’t help the smile that bloomed on his lips the moment they were looking at each other, a natural reaction at this point.

Taehyung reached out, grasping the human’s wrist gently to pull them against him again, wrapping his arms around the human in a gentle hug. The vampire laughed softly against his lover’s head, pulling back to look at him, “Baby, I’m okay. In fact, I thought I hurt you.” 

The scene was quick to melt away as soon the vampire’s eyes fluttered open slowly.

Unfortunately, he did hurt them. His dream may end with soft hugs and mutually fond smiles. But in reality, it ended with blood all over Taehyung and cpr. He had lost it, attacked his lover in a way that he could never come back from, he realized it too late. He got lucky when he managed to get their heart pumping again, bringing them back. And even if they forgave him, he could never forgive himself.

He was meant to protect, not hurt. He could never be so vulnerable with someone again, he could never trust himself to indulge in blood consumption that way ever again.
