The OCT Standards of Practice provide educators with a common knowledge of what it means to be a teacher. The OCT Standards of Practice create a shared vision of what the teaching profession is and to identify what the values, knowledge and skills are in the teaching profession. The OCT Standards of practice are also used as a way for teachers to judge their actions of the teaching profession.

The standards of practice include, Commitment to Students and Student Learning, Professional knowledge, Professional practice, Leadership in Learning Communities, and Ongoing Professional Learning. I have seen all of the OCT Standards of practice within my structured experience days.

I have seen commitment to students and student learning as my associate teacher, teaches in the most equitable way possible. For example, she provides aids to students who have IEPS such as extra help and manipulatives to those who it would aid. Aswell, my associate teacher interacts with her students treating them as contributing members of society. She tells them constantly to be good citizens and help others- through sharing and cleaning up the classroom.
