         <title> April 12-14, 1861                       Battle of Fort Sumter           </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Battle of Fort Sumter took place in the port of Charleston, South Carolina. It started when Confederate forces led by Brig. Gen. P.G.T Beauregard, set an artillery barrage against the fort. It ended when Union major Robert Anderson surrendered the fort to the Confederates. In the end, the Confederates completed their objective, to get Union forces out of the port city, and both sides went home without casualties, at least from the fight.&nbsp;<br><br>Source: https://www.battlefields.org/learn/civil-war/battles/fort-sumter</div>]]></description>

         <title>July 21, 1861                    First Battle of Bull Run           </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The First Battle of Bull Run took place in Fairfax County and Prince William County, Virginia. The Union was under stress to have the war end in 90 days, so President Abraham Lincoln had to force Union general Irvin McDowell to start a campaign to get the Confederate capital in Richmond. His troops were stopped at Bull Run bridge by Brig. Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard’s Rebel forces. The following battle became a Confedrerate victory in which there were 4,878 casualties, 2,896 of which were Union and 1,982 of them Confederate.<br><br>Source: https://www.battlefields.org/learn/civil-war/battles/bull-run</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Battle Antietam took place in Washington County, Maryland. It started when General Robert E. Lee tried to continue to push his Confederate forces closer to the Union capital, Washington D.C. President Lincoln did not only want to get the Confederates off Union land, he also wanted a major win so that he could issue a preliminary Emancipation Proclamation.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The Battle of Chancellorsville took place in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. It started because Joseph Hooker, the head of the Army of the Potomac, wanted to drive the Confederates from their camp in Fredericksburg. It became one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, with 17,304 Union casualties and 13,460 Confederate casualties.          <title>May 18 - July 4, 1863   Siege of Vicksburg</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Siege of Vicksburg took place in Warren County, Mississippi.&nbsp;Vicksburg was an important location for both the Union and the Confederates. The Confederate president even said it was the nail that held the two parts of the South together. For this reason, and others, it was very important for the North to conquer it. The Union held a 49 day siege upon the town. They eventually had success with 32,363 Confederate casualties and 4,910 Union casualties.          <title>September 18-20, 1863  Battle of Chickamauga</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Battle of Chickamuaga took place in Catoosa County and Walker County, Georgia. The Union had recently taken control of the small city of Chattanooga, which had four major Confederate railroads. Confederate general Braxton Bragg surprised the Union Maj. Gen. William Rosecrans at Chickamauga Creek. While Bragg did not get the victory he wanted, complete destruction of Rosecrans's army and reoccupation of the city of Chattanooga, he did many to win and take control of the area around the city. This ended with 16,170 Union casualties and 18,454 Confederate casualties.
