She wanted people to know about how all these things were playing a role in how people thought and how they should be thinking. She uses these themes to try to get a message out to the reader. To let them know that how slaves and women were being treated is wrong, and that as being mainly Christian, they should try to change their ways and open their eyes.

This book is important because it is history from what America was like. It shows how slavery and women's rights were changing their lives. The people who owned the slave thought it was right to own these slaves and thought men were better than women and deserved more rights. It also got people to realize that slavery was wrong and that women shouldn't have more rights than men. Also, some people may have been against the book because they still wanted slaves. The slaves helped America have workers which didn't cost much. They needed them for the food that they plant.

Her main goal is to get people to know what was happening at that time. Many people may have thought that slavery wasn't bad and to say that women should be able to do things that men could. She also had a lot of religion because she wanted to show how religion could have gotten the slaves past the harsh times. This is because with the religion, the religion told them that there was going to be a better time after being slaves. This is what kept them going.
