In public school I think equal opportunity must be a requirement. Although private schools I think should be able to dictate that in any way they want, as long as it is not in a form of discrimination. However, what most people get upset about is when there is no equal outcome. The promise of equal opportunity does not mean everyone will get rich because not everyone works as hard towards their opportunities.

Whereas at bowdoin you might have world class meals but fewer educational progression if you fall into the category of low income students. Overall each school is tailored for different peoples needs you wished they were all completely open to every economic class but that is just not the case unless college was free for everyone I don't see change happening anytime soon. Low income students deserve the opportunity to get a good education without worrying about the financials. The money needs to go to something more useful than cafeteria food. Yes, healthy food is important but you are going to college for a good education, not to go into debt for the reason that the food is good.

Private schools have the right to make their own rules and provide different levels of opportunity as they see fit. All across the country there are colleges that to provide equal opportunity. Then there are private colleges that make their own rules because they are private. If a person does not like the way that a private school operates then they should not go to that college because that school has all the right to use their budget the way they want simply because they are private. Private schools have given themselves a label of private and that allows them to run the college the way they see fit.

Private schools reserve the right to have curfews, rules against coed interactions, partying, and even religious classes. If a student has a problem with fees or rules, they do not have to attend. There are tons of colleges, like community that provide equal opportunities and students can go there to save money and then transfer to other equal opportunity colleges too.

In my opinion private schools are places for education but of course they are businesses as well, so they do need the money to finance the institution. The private school is marked of their own possibilities to make decisions. Private school are often known for their good education, for instance the world famous IVY League College on the east cost. The University of harvard is even recognized as an expansive elite university in Germany. You also pay for an image. Nevertheless out of the business view I totally think that private colleges should not care about equality. They need to finance the school on their own and do not receive all the governmental grants. So if you look for equity you should apply at a public college. From the moral point of view I am upset that just your money counts in the US and less your abilities. I think it is the wrong way for the country to make it for poor and smart people very hard to find a college but for dump rich children it is easier. Education should be independent from the parents’ income. But although the image of everyone should have a college degree is in my opinion very bad. Not everyone is made for college.

I think private schools should have an option of how much equal opportunity they want to offer. I think they all should have a minimum requirement for equal opportunity, because every school needs some diversity in their student body, but it should be up to each school if they want to make it easier or harder for less wealthy kids to attend their school or not. However, public schools should not have the option of equal opportunity because they are more available to general public and are held to different standards than prestigious private schools.

No one is forcing you to go to a private school. You don't just sign up, so you should take the time to look into what you're truly paying for. It would be wise to run through all of the numbers and see where your tuition is actually going. I believe private schools should be able to decide what they want to do for the students, including what they want to allocate money to. As a private school they aren't required to follow the same regulations as a public school, and if you are against that, then simply choose a different school. Equal opportunity should be a high priority in a public system, but if a private school doesn't want to, they shouldn't have to. Which as we heard in the podcast, private schools can vastly differ from one another.

If you think the school is wrong with how they are educating the kids that you gave them money to do then either home school your kid or kids if you feel like you are the best way to get them education opposed to the school, or simply just read more into a different school and find one you believe better benefits your kid or kids education.
