While many were fighting to give women equal rights, a group emerged known as the anti-suffragists. Anti-suffragists believed that women should be denied the right to vote as well as stick to their "women duties" such as cleaning, cooking, and being a good wife. Anti-suffragists argued that most women did not want to vote, artists created political cartoons that mocked suffragists, religious leaders spoke out against women's political activism, and articles attack women who took part in public life.
