What experiences do you share with the characters
- Moving from school to school, it might not be the same as moving cities but the feeling of leaving friends behind and starting all over was a little complicated.
In what ways is your family similar or different from those in the book?
- One similarity is that my family is that they usually get into very bad fights but always work it out at the end like if nothing happened.
What did you learn about a character or group of people that you have not personally experienced?
- I find it surprising how a girl at a very young age can be very optimistic when terrible things are happening

Education: By school education the kids in the beginning of the story are taught at home by their parents, their dad teaches them math and their mom would teach them how to write. In the way the parents educate make the kids be too independent for themselves at a very young age

Jeannette told her mom that she wanted to replant a Joshua tree near their house and take care of it so it could be more healthier and prettier but her mom didn't allow it. "It's the Joshua tree's struggle that gives its beauty" (Walls, 38). This stands out to me because Jeannette's mom didn't mind what happened to her children because they have to face their problems. It is trying to say that going through a lot of difficulties is part of growing up

Q1: The pattern I've noticed in the story is Jeannette getting hurt badly, but every time that happens she becomes more of a strong and serious girl not minding later what happened to her.

Q2: When the author was in the hospital when she was three years old, the words she chose of her describing her experience and how everything looked inside the hospital are very positive, like describing how clean the sheets of bed were, because its seems like she is so impressed by them since she doesn't have any at home.

Q3: An important event that the author mentions could be about her experience in the hospital again because she mentions a lot of stuff good in the hospital to give an idea of what she doesn't have at home like food or a quite environment.

Q2: One of my values is that robbing is wrong, but while analyzing the kids living situation has its positive and negative side. I would say that robbing isn't good if it's a big rob, like Jeannette stealing food from classmates because she was hungry is understandable and probably easy to forget.

Q4: The parenting style in the story is terrible because they let the kids act freely without letting know the risk of some consequences with the excuse of the kids to learn from their actions.

Q5: I can relate a lot when Jeannette and her brother Brian view their father differently, Jeannette sees her dad as an amazing dad while Brian sees that there are times where his dad lets them down. I always try to see the best out of my dad but my sisters don't always agree with it or try to make me change my mind. This makes me feel like I can connect to the main character better.

Jeanette was saying how Billy was a JD (Juvenile
Delinquent) and that she disliked him, but her mom didn't like the way she was talking about him and explained how it is not his fault for him acting that way. "Unloved children grow up to become serial murderers or alcoholics. Mom looked pointedly at Dad and then back at me" (Walls, 83). Rose was also referring to Rex giving the idea that he probably also had terrible parents in his childhood since he is an alcoholic. One thing for sure is that a child raised with hate that kid will eventually carry that hate and treat others how they were treated or raised.

Health: During these pages it goes more into details how the kids are not getting enough food because their dad isn't bringing money home of spending it on something else. They eat unhealthy like eating butter and at a point where Jeannette is stealing food from her classmate's lunches.

What experiences do you share with the characters?
- Once I saw one of my sisters almost speaking up after my dad but in the end she just couldn't do it like Brian with his dad.
In what ways is your family similar or different from those in the book?
- The environment of Jeannette with her Grandma Smith compared to her parents is similar to mine but revered, I'm more comfortable with my parents since i have more fun and feel less alone.
What did you learn about a character or group of people that you have not personally experienced?
- It is still hard to believe how a kid like Billy can get this creepy and dangerous and it's all because a parent isn't acting like one.

The Walls moved out of Rex's parents house and rented the house, the house which isn't in a very good state. "A water spigot rose a few inches above the ground...so you could get a bucket and tote water upstairs", (Walls pag.151). Jeannette is telling one out of many of the struggles she has in her new house that is not having much access to water. This is the biggest and annoying problem since they have already dealt with water issues before.

Q2: Because they were low class, they are determined to move around from house to house because they couldn't afford a good house and instead they have a almost destroyed home with barely any water nor electricity, and a dangerous area.

Health: The houses they have been moving to are in a terrible state of condition especially with barely having water source and once the money is getting tight again the children once again are eating from the dump. It's a big issue because once again the parents aren't seeing the risk of health that these children can have in the future.

What experiences do you share with the characters?
- Like Jeannette I sometimes tend to be someone who easily forgives a person who is closer to me, mom and dad for example
In what ways is your family similar or different from those in the book?
- Sometimes my family would agree on stuff that doesn't seem good (but also not problematic) just to show some respect no matter how bad the situation is.
What did you learn about a character or group of people that you have not personally experienced?
- It's really hard to not be able to make a change in something in the environment and sad that no one is interested in helping.

Jeanette was telling her mother how if she left her husband it would be a benefit and they all would have a better life with more food and clothing than they were living in that moment, but she refused to let that happen and was against on welfare or getting a job. " 'I can't leave your father...It's against the Catholic faith", (Wall p.188). Rose uses her catholic belief to justify her excuse of not wanting to leave Rex. It seems that Rose uses that excuse because she doesn't like to be proved wrong.

Q2: Jeannette is conscious about the area where she lives looks bad and she thinks that if she makes the house more cheerful the town would look better. Rose Mary is very unconscious when it comes to serious or problematic situations, she always tries to find an excuse to defend it or try to find a benefit to it.

- If I disliked something about the family I would always have a talk about why should I be thankful to have them take care of me
In what ways is your family similar or different from those in the book?
- Unlike Rose Mary I believe my mom would sell an expensive ring to be able to get food instead of worrying about self-esteem
What did you learn about a character or group of people that you have not personally experienced?
- Not everyone should be forgiven even if it's in your family, if they still did something horrible being part of the family isn't a great excuse
