Operation Torch

On November 8 ,1942, Operation Torch was the name given to the British and American invasion to French North Africa. US and British powers, charged by American General Dwight D. Eisenhower, did this crusade. Three teams arrived on the shorelines close Casablanca on the Moroccan Atlantic Coast; close to Oran in western Algeria; and close Algiers, more than 250 miles toward the east in Algeria. There were around 60,000 French troops in Morocco with a small naval fleet based at Casablanca. As opposed to fight the French, plans were made to pick up the participation of the French armed force. General Eisenhower was given order of Operation Torch and in the arranging stage he set up his base camp in Gibraltar. The key to Operation Torch was an effective land and/or water capable landing. Three landing locales were picked – Casablanca, Oran and Algiers. The Western Task Force was to arrive close Casablanca at Safi, Rabat and Mehdia and Major-General George Patton charged it. 35,000 troops were in this team.
The Central Task Force was to arrive at Oran. It was charged by Major-General Lloyd Fredendall. 18,500 troops were in this team. The Eastern Task Force was to arrive at Algiers and General Ryder charged it. 20,000 troops were in this team. The opposition set up by the French was increasingly a bother rather than a noteworthy military issue. The key focus for Patton was the capture of Casablanca. This he accomplished on November 10th when he took the city unopposed, only two days in the wake of landing. The Allied landings set off the German control of the unoccupied zone of France and the fast dispatch of German troops to Tunisia. To stay away from capture of their Mediterranean Fleet by the Germans, the Vichy French abandoned it in the harbors of Toulon on November 27, 1942. Before the end of November, the Allies had crossed the Tunisian border in the northwest.

June 22, 1941,
It was the start of the operation. The operation was o have Germany storm into the Soviet Union to take over it, as to not have to worry about a war on 2 fronts. Or in Hitler's terms, it was to give "living space in the East." By December of 1941, the Germans were within sight of Moscow. Hitler wanted the Germans to continue pushing during the winter, but due to the Germans not being used to the cold and harsh Russian winters, they were halted in their push. On June 28, 1942, the Germans plan to attack and conquer Stalingrad. Stalin in response orders lots of Russian soldiers to defend and take it back. By November 24, the Soviets had encircled 330,000 men. Soldiers were sent to relieve the encircled soldiers, but by January 31, 1943, the soldiers had failed and the forces sent to capture Russia had surrendered to Joseph Stalin. This operation caused almost 918,000-1,340,000 men to be killed, wounded, or missing for the Axis Powers. The Soviets had at least 802,191 men killed, wounded, or captured. Nice one Hitler, you idiot.
