JESSICA CANHAM
Within the body the reproductive system can be significantly impacted by diabetes. One of the complications of diabetes is nerve damage and this nerve damage can affect the reproductive system mainly the vagina and the penis. Diabetes affetcs the nerves within the vagina and penis as well as the blood vessels.

For the female reproductive system diabetes can result in a dry, inflamed vagina which can cause itchiness, painful sex, yeast infections, urinary tract infections and low oestrogen levels however this doesn’t affect fertility.
For the male reproductive system diabetes can cause erectile dysfunction in which Viagra can be prescribed to help that.

Circulatory System

-Blood Vessels can be damaged if the glucose levels are too high and if they remain high for a long time, so less oxygen and nutrients e.g. glucose is transported when it is needed.

Digestive System
- Nerves (Vagus nerve) in the stomach can be damaged, which can lead to Gastroparesis which means less glucose will be absorbed and food may not be broken down.

Endocrine System
-This can be affected because the pancreas will produce less insulin or the insulin that is produced the body cells will be less reactive to it.

Immune System
- There will be more infections because this system is affected and the cells that are involved in this are affected so immune response is much lower, therefore they are more prone to infections and disease as well as slow healing e.g. of cuts.

Muscular System
-The cardiac muscle can be affected because Diabetes can damage blood vessels and so this can lead to atherosclerosis, build up of cholesterol in the blood vessels.

Reproductive System
- It can cause itchiness due to yeast infections, this disorder can also cause problems in arousal this is because of damage to the nerves.

Respiratory System
-Diabetes affect your vital lung capacity and they are more prone to respiratory infections which can cause breathing rate to be higher because less oxygen can get into the body. It can cause Obstructive Sleep Apnea which is where when sleeping your airways are blocked you have difficulty in breathing.

Nervous System
- This disorder can lead to nerve damage, which can lead to loss of feeling in the hands or legs. It can cause Diabetic neuropathy which is nerve damage.

Skeletal System
-Diabetes can cause bone damage and it can cause osteoporosis, also it can cause another condiution known as Charcoot Foot which can lead to fractures in the foot and in people who have diabetes there is nerve damage so they might not feel this.

Urinary System
- It can affect this system because it can cause damage to the Kidneys and there can also be damage to the nerves which control the bladder, also Diabetes can lead to Urinary Tract Infections.

URINARY SYSTEM

The urinary system allows the body to remove any waste products from the body through urination. Also aids in removing any excess glucose from the blood, to lower the blood glucose levels tp prevent any problems occurring later on.

IMMUNE SYSTEM

The main role of the immune system is to protect the body from any bacteria or viruses. There are four main organs that make up the immune system:

Bone marrow

Thymus

Spleen

Lymph nodes

SKELETAL SYSTEM

The Skeletal system consists of all the bones within the body. The role of the skeletal system is to provide support for the muscles, tendon and internal organs in the body to give it the capability of movement. The skeletal also allows the body to protect vital organs such as the brain, lungs and heart.

ENDOCRINE SYSTEM

The endocrine system consists of multiple glands that secrete different hormones determining how they behave. The hormones secreted by the endocrine system regulate growth, sexual function, mood and metabolism. The endocrine system is responsible for the hormone insulin which is secreted in the pancreas by the beta cells. Insulin has an important role within the body as it regulates blood glucose levels which need to be regulated in order for the body to function healthily.
