I'm in total agreement with 90 minute uninterrupted Literacy Blocks. So important for our young students!

Why does cursive writing have to be a tested area?

I feel understanding reading terms/vocabulary is essential to reading. I also feel writing legibly and using correct grammar and punctuality is an important skill students should master.

I'm also wondering why cursive writing has to be a tested area for students. Is this realistic, meaning is this a necessary tool for our time today? We're constantly being pushed towards technology, technology, TECHNOLOGY (which is all in print), when and where "in the real world" is the use of cursive writing logical?

1) importrance of writing legible
2) reading expectations
3) 720 is an important number but in reality (with other factors like student absences, etc) this number is actually much higher but it is a valid point

I also like the 90 minute literacy block. Data is proving that it is working with our students. I have seen major growth in the students that I have been working with. I do have concerns about cursive writing being a tested area. I think it should be taught, but not tested. Our students definetly need improvement on writing legible. 3important take aways: 720, reading expectations and A-ha.
