The teacher leader assists colleagues in accessing and using research in order to select appropriate strategies
to improve student learning.

My mentor teacher, Kendall Hardy, has helped me improve my teaching by doing her own research within our content area--English Language Arts. Ms. Hardy has found a variety of research-based methods and utilized them in her classroom over the last 2 years. One of the suggestions she gave me last year, during my first year teaching, was implementing an "Article of the Week" homework assignment. This idea comes from Kelly Gallagher. You can read more about AoW here at this link. Ms. Hardy has also given me a variety of book recommendations over the last two years for how to improve my teaching. One of those book recs is pictured below.

The teacher leader facilitates the analysis of student learning data, collaborative interpretation of results, and application of findings to improve teaching and learning, and the teacher leader teaches and supports colleagues to collect, analyze, and communicate data from their
classrooms to improve teaching and learning.

My mentor teacher, Kendall Hardy, is the best example of a teacher leader in my school. She has helped me figure out how to analyze data and utilize that data in my classroom on numerous occasions. Pictured below is an example of the Holly Springs data analysis form, which must be filled out after each and every biweekly assessment. The picture below shows an incomplete form from my first year of teaching. The entirety of the form *should* be completed with percentages and color-codes; however, I, as a first year teacher, did not know how to do this properly. Ms. Hardy helped guide me during that first year so that I could learn and grow and use data in my classroom effectively.

Who is a Teacher Leader at my school?

The best example of a teacher leader at Holly Springs High School, I think, is Ms. Kendall Hardy. She's my mentor teacher, a fellow ELA instructor, and a friend. She has given me examples of useful resources to implement in my lesson planning. She has sat down with me at the computer to show me how to analyze data correctly. She has talked me through what that data means and how to change my lessons accordingly so that my students benefit most from my instruction. She has given me book recommendations to improve my classroom practices. Those books have given me research-based strategies like Article of the Week and Interactive Notebooks to try in my classroom. Kendall Hardy is an excellent example of Domain 2 coming to life at Holly Springs. Below you'll see a picture of me and Ms. Hardy from my first semester of teaching.
