Human rights organizations report widespread abuse and violence against domestic workers in Lebanese homes. Many workers face passport confiscation, withheld wages, and physical abuse from employers. Despite international conventions protecting migrant workers' rights, these practices continue unchecked. Domestic workers are excluded from labor laws, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation with little legal recourse. Cultural attitudes and lack of awareness contribute to the ongoing mistreatment of foreign domestic workers in Lebanon.

Jessica, a Sri Lankan domestic worker in Lebanon, suffered severe abuse by her employer. After expressing homesickness, she was physically assaulted and thrown out of the house. Her employer had illegally confiscated her passport and withheld her wages for a year and a half. Jessica's case highlights common issues faced by domestic workers, including restriction of movement, physical violence, and financial exploitation. Despite efforts to seek justice, Jessica faces challenges in recovering her owed wages and returning home, as domestic workers have limited access to legal protection in Lebanon.

Many foreign workers who come to Lebanon to work in homes face big problems. These workers, mostly women, often have their passports taken away by their employers. This means they can't leave when they want to. Sometimes, they don't get paid for their work. Even worse, some workers are hurt by the people they work for.

The law in Lebanon doesn't protect these workers very well. This makes it hard for them to get help when they're treated badly. Many Lebanese people don't understand how serious these problems are. This needs to change so that domestic workers can be treated fairly and with respect.
