         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire was the deadliest industrial disaster in history. A common practice of locking doors, stairwells and exits to prevent unregulated work breaks, prevented workers from escaping the fire leading to many deaths. The fire led to legislation requiring improved factory safety standards.</div>]]></description>

This event sparked xenophobia throughout the country as well as hatred and fear towards labor movements. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Textile Workers Strike 1934</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This was the largest strike in labor history in the US at the time. The workers were protesting the poor work conditions in the textile factory such as speeding up production, limiting break times and stopping workers from slowing down, talking and leaving work. Although it had influence on other laborers, it made no gains from the strike.</div>]]></description>

         <title>General Motors Sit Down Strike 1936</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The United Automobile Workers (UWA) went on strike against GM due to two brothers being fired. This event gave the UWA legitimacy and the workers received a 5% increase in pay and were allowed to talk during lunch. This strike resulted in the UWA signing up 100,000 more members, strengthening their union.</div>]]></description>
