Michael is not just a normal 12-year old. He has a lot going on, his father has died, Carlos is working two different jobs, and Michael is a great young star pitcher. Michael has been hiding his father's death for 3 months. A News person wanted to take a picture of Michael with Carlos and his dad for stopping a criminal. Michael doesn't know what to say to the man, so he says that his dad is in Florida taking care of his uncle. After a while, one coach of an opposing baseball team thought that Michael wasn't 12-years old and wanted to see his birth certificate. Michael didn't have it so he tried everything to get it, but until then, he would have to sit out of baseball. Mr. Gibbs thinks that Michael's dad has left him and his brother and wanted to see him. Michael, Carlos, and Manny have Manny's uncle, Uncle Timo, be Michael's dad.

The main conflict is that Michael can't find his birth certificate. Michael needs his birth certificate in order to play in the Little League. Michael, Manny, El Grande, Ellie, Mr. Gibbs, and Carlos are all involved. Manny tells Ellie about Michael's problem and she tells her dad, El Grande, about it. El Grande then calls to Cuba and has people find Michael's birth certificate. (Person vs. Society)
Another conflict is that Michael's and Carlos's dad died and are trying to keep it a secret. Michael, Carlos, Manny, and Mr. Gibbs are all involved. Mr. Gibbs finds out what is happening and allows Carlos to have custody of Michael as long as Carlos works for Mr. Gibbs.

The main theme is that you should tell the truth from the beginning. Don't hide things because that could end up being worse. Ellie didn't tell Manny and Michael that she was El Grande's daughter because she didn't want them to be her friends because of who her dad was. Michael didn't tell anyone about his father's death. This lie could have had a lot worse ending.

I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars because it is a very great book for both suspense and baseball. I really liked this book because I like to watch baseball and I can see this happening in real life.

They pulled it off. Mr. Gibbs thought that he was Michael's dad. Later on Mr. Gibbs finds out that Michael's dad had died and tells Carlos that he can have custody of Michael as long as he works for Mr. Gibbs. Manny and Michael were playing at the baseball field and Ellie came by. Michael left to go back home because he was mad. Manny told Ellie about Michael's whole story and told her father, El Grande. El Grande then had people in Cuba get Michael's birth certificate. Michael got to play in the Little League World Series. He would then grow up to become a starting pitcher for the Yankee's.
