      <description>An Illinois teacher for nearly three decades, Kathleen “Kathy” Chapko taught first grade in Avoca School District 37 in Wilmette, Illinois. In addition to creating and delivering lessons within a self-contained first grade classroom, she cooperated with visiting student teachers from National-Louis University. Previously, Kathy Chapko taught second grade at Caledonia Elementary, where subjects included history, mathematics, reading, and language arts. She also conducted Dibels and Fountas and Pinnell reading tests to gauge the progress of individual students.

Ms. Chapko studied education and liberal arts at Rock Valley Junior College in Rockford, Illinois. She subsequently earned a bachelor of arts in elementary education from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. During her undergraduate studies, Kathleen Chapko spent a semester student teaching a self-contained third grade class of 32 students in Peoria, Illinois.

Outside of the classroom, Kathy Chapko enjoys reading, practicing yoga, and playing piano. She also maintains an interest in holistic health topics and reads various articles by Dr. Andrew Weil and Dr. Joseph Mercola.</description>
