<title>This 32 page report was commissioned on behalf of the Irish Refugee Resettlement Programme by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth and undertaken by the International Organisation for Migration(IMO) Ireland. It is authored by Dr Lucy Michaels. Dr Michaels has conducted research with both public and private sector bodies such as IMO, UK Home Office and European Network Against Racism. Dr Michaels is a sociologist and consultant on equality and integration issues. She has co-authored &#39; Immigrants as Outsiders in the Two Irelands&#39;, 2019 and &#39;Unsettling Whiteness&#39;, 2019. The Report provides valuable insights into the experiences of 153 resettled Syrian refugees who arrived in Ireland between 2015 and 2019 through the Irish Resettlement Programme. It explores the challenges and needs faced by them in Ireland and provides lessons to improve future integration. The report also highlights the challenges faced by the refugees due to their lack of basic literacy skills and how these have affected their search for employment, access to higher and further education as well as in their everyday life. It provides a useful insight into the work that needs to be done to overcome language barriers which in turn affect the refugees&#39; basic human right to information which would enable them to become full citizens in their new country. </title>

<title>The Refugee Resettlement Toolkit (RRT) is a free online resource by Doras, an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation that supports and promotes the rights of migrants in Ireland. Doras have been involved in resettlement projects in Laois, Wexford and Limerick since 2015 and, as a result, have amassed a wealth of knowledge. This project was the first of its kind in Ireland and was supported by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The RRT, laid out in 29 sections, provides guidance on a broad range of topics, for example pre-arrival planning, designing a volunteer programme, cultural training, health and well being, providing literacy skills, supporting children and financial management. The practical downloadable resources, based on good practice globally, for resettlement and community sponsorship, staff and volunteers, are helpful and necessary. The toolkit was authored by Hannah Culkin who has had many years experience of working in the migrant support sector, working with Doras on Syrian and Iraqi resettlement projects as well as the British Refugee Council.</title>

<title>Kiron OHE GmbH is a non profit organisation based in Germany. It offers free courses and online learning as well as reskilling programmes to help refugees, asylum seekers and the underserved communities rebuild and improve their job prospects and livelihood. Since 2015, its online platform Kiron Campus has over 70,000 course enrolments, 14000 learners globally and 21000 course completions. It offers custom made online study programmes, specifically for refugees, migrants and underserved communities, using massive open online courses from renowned educational providers and Open Educational Resources. It is optimised to function on mobile phones and in areas which have limited access to wi-fi. Top courses include Computer Science, English, Graphic Design and Business. It recognises that learners may not have state of the art equipment so is geared towards low bandwith and simpler devices. What is also useful is that Kiron provides skills programmes to prepare learners for the job market. SaorEd, a collaborative initiative from Doras, New Horizon and Dignity Partnership, offers courses built on the Kiron online learning platform for free in Ireland. Apart from the English language courses they also offer basic and intermediate IT skills, web design with HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Certificates are provided to learners on completion. Although the courses are mostly in English, navigation interfaces are provided in Arabic and other languages.</title>

<title>The Immigrant Council of Ireland launched a campaign entitled &#39;Register, Vote, Run&#39; ahead of the 2019 local elections. They created 10 short, digitally shareable videos in 10 different languages informing migrants of their voting rights and providing step-by-step information on how to do this. This is a valuable resource as refugees who are resident in Ireland and over 18 have a right to run and vote in their local elections. It is important that they exercise this right so that their voice is heard. This video has had 1.3k views.</title>

<title>FutureLearn is a global learning platform offering courses that span a wide range of topics. The Open University is one of its founding partners. This course is a three week course run by the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Students will learn how the principles of psychological well-being, communication and interpretation can benefit their work with refugees. It covers the basics about human migration, refugees and the legal framework as well as cultural diversity and interethnic relations. It also deals with socialisation, conflict resolution and social inclusion. It is important for librarians to understand how they can support integration of refugees into the community and this course is useful and an important tool in giving that introductory help to those working with refugees.</title>

<title>Although this peer reviewed article, published in the Journal of Documentation, deals with Syrian New Scots in Scotland it provides valuable insight into their resettlement and the barriers and challenges faced by them. It outlines how lack of basic literacy skills, in not only the English language but also Arabic, poses challenges in the areas of health, employment and finances. It sets out recommendations on dealing with these challenges. Helpful lessons can be learned from comparing the Scottish Government&#39;s method of dealing with resettlement with the Irish position. The author of the article Dr Konstantina Martzoukou is Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Course Leader at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland. Her research interests include information seeking behaviour, information and digital literacy and online learning and she has previous experience of working with vulnerable communities such as Syrian New Scots.
