Almiquis are unusual compared to other mammals in that its saliva is venomous. That makes them so fascinating though, considering they disable their opponents just a snake would, by using their venom. There is only two types of Almiquis and one lives in Cuba and the other lives in the Dominican  Republic.

They eat insects, worms, frogs, and reptiles. Almiquis are becoming endangered due to deforestation and because of the introduction od dogs, cats and mongooses that eat the almiquis will soon drive the solenodons to extinction.
