The Compromise of 1850 is Politically significant because it was laws passed by the congress to address slavery issues. An example is California being admitted to the union as a free state and The Fugitive Slave Act which required capture and return of all enslaved people to their owners even if they reached free states. The Act also allowed citizens to assist in capturing slaves as well. The compromise also let people in New Mexico and Utah decide for slavery themselves which neither sides were satisfied leading to further conflict.

The Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854 is socially significant because it affected the expansion of slavery leading to conflicts between pro and anti-slavery factions. By letting people in Kansas and Nebraska choose if they want slavery became violent resulting in Bleeding Kansas. Bleeding Kansas also contributed to the realignment of political parties. In response to the Act, Free Soilers who were people that wanted to prevent the expansion of slavery and others united and formed the Republican Party.

The Dred Scott Decision was a political because it declared that Congress had no constitutional power to prohibit slavery in the territories. It also inflamed abolitionist movements and deepened the divide between states. The Decision was also a Social because the ruling denied citizenship to African Americans whether they are free or enslaved, effectively taking all legal standing and reinforcing the idea that enslaved people were property. This caused racial inequalities ad denied basic rights.
