What stands out as creepy to me is that AI is advancing so fast that we are starting to see holograms of our lost loved ones that are powered by their thoughts and replicate their life story. This makes them appear as if they are still alive and makes me wonder, what is the differentiating factor between the AI and hologram since they share the same "memories" and thoughts. This is similar to Blade Runner in that these holograms start to see themselves as human.

I was most interested by the section on human tendency to reflect what is around us and what we take in. "Human beings synchronize with each other effortlessly..." The explanation of group polarization is meant to set the stage for the crazy stories about ai messages from lost loved ones that follow, and it does so very well. It is a blunt truth that humans are inclined trust people we are around and know, so the AI attempts to infiltrate this security are what scare me the most.

Something that was very relatable was the article that talked about how ghost stories spread in the era of social media. It particularly resonated with me because I remember seeing videos of Momo and Slenderman and being very creeped out about it. Moreover, my brothers used to, like they also did with Bigfoot (I mentioned in a previous Padlet), use Momo as a tool to get me to do things. While they never had me harm others or myself, they would coerce me to take the trash out or do any other of their chores, which some may argue is just as despicable.

Honestly, I feel we can relate to the first story from Ghosts Of A New Machine. The house has so many modern elements that I feel are definitely in our near future. We already have tech like Alexa, who I am sure is listening to every word we say in the same room as her. Even though most of the "haunting" is through modern developments, we still have examples of this today. If someone dies, visiting their house soon after will reveal their everyday life. If you were to live in it without changing much, you would have a very similar experience to Jessamyn and Kate.

The idea of HereAfter AI was really unsettling to me. The fact that you can reduce a person to just a story and turn that into an AI is honestly quite scary. Death is a constant and it will come for everyone eventually. If that's scary or calming for other people I can't say, but regardless it's a factor no one can change. After you die, the only thing people can remember you through is your story. HereAfter AI could take advantage of that and tarnish people post-mortem. After I die, I probably want to be left alone to rest.

I thought the article that talked about bringing ai versions of people back to life after they died was a little creepy. It seemed like there would be some privacy issues with that, especially if you have to give it information about the person who died. I also thought it was a little freaky deaky how the ai version of a deceased loved one could change in response to current events. "The actual person to change had they still been alive." That just seemed a little weird and not something I would really want if I died. I think this idea could be cool if it was at a museum or something but I don't think every person should have access to it.

What stood out most to me was the 'Momo Challenge.' I remember when it first came out and I was terrified. The way that Momo spread was like wildfire. It was brought up in schools, by parents, etc. The scariest part is that children were actually so scared of her because she was telling them to do bad things. Many children actually got hurt from this challenge. Mentally and physically. I still get scared of her sometimes when I'm walking in my house late at night in the dark. This challenge wasn't only scary because of how Momo looked, but scary as to how the media could kill a kid just from a youtube video.

I found the idea of the automated house as a modern haunted house intriguing, particularly the quote: "The true protagonist is the house itself." Because it frames the house as dependent on its residents, rather than the other way around. Technology is typically viewed as a tool for people, but this idea reverses that.

Something that stuck out as very creepy to me in the reading was that even after a person dies, the AI version of them is still able to continue existing and evolving. This was so interesting to me since the goal of recreating people through AI is to preserve them but if they can continue evolving, we aren't able to preserve the person that they were. Another part of the second reading that really stood out to me was the conversation about how the introduction of AI wouldn't allow people to grieve losses which could be seen as both healthy and unhealthy.

What I found very uneasy in the reading was the AI Ghosts. It mentions, "the use of AI and other techniques to kind of reconstruct a person digitally." I found this extremely freaky. The ability to copy a dead relative's voice, mannerisms, and appearance and have the technology to have basic conversations freaks me out.

The reading Reference how ghost stories spread and morph into smoking more scary then the original story teller ever intended. Momo was an actual doll-like figure created by a Japanese special effects company. When Momo was apearing in children's videos and all over the internet, trusted news sources spread awareness of the Doll. This caused people to create there own ideas of what Momo really was.

I found the Ghosts of a New Machine to be freaky deaky because the house was made to function completely without humans. It was interesting to see through the perspective of the narrator when he says, "automated houses may mean not that the houses themselves are haunted but that we ourselves become the ghosts, mere guests obligated to the thing that once represented security." Because the house lives on without us our homes become the place for our ghosts

One thing that I found especially interesting was how technology had created new ghosts by being everlasting and not knowing when the user died. The examples were when an old social media profile of a dead person could be recommended, or home automation processes continuing to function. The home automation continuing to go was an interesting form of haunting. A line that stood out was "idea of a lonely person haunting a place is slowly dying". This stood out because of how the new technology creates ghosts and haunting feelings while it also takes away some.

I absolutely detest AI, and it's not that I can't comprehend it or that it's able to replicate images or voices, rather the pace at which it's moving and the natural resource depletion that fuels it. Of course, it is very worrying that it can replicate images or voices. The problem is, we've developed it in the wrong way - we made it too easy to use. AI should not be a tool used in place of human creativity, not to write or paint or draw. If a pig can hold a paintbrush in its mouth and paint a self portrait, so too can any of the pigs selling ai art. To quote Joanna Maciejewska, "I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do my laundry and dishes."
