When it comes to the beginning of music, I feel like there was a clear division between male and females in all aspects of music. When you heard deep, loud voices along with bass heavy music, you clearly associate that with a male singing that part. On the contrary, when you hear high voices on the quieter side in songs, that can be associated with females. This clear division is still clear in modern music however this boundary is being pushed. For example several male artist are have started to use high voices as well as dress very flashy in their music videos, such as Micheal Jackson and Young Thug. As far as what is liked is still an opinion  that is up to the male/female listener. For me, I am fan of whatever sound pleasing to me, I do not care about the gender roles that are involved. Although music a very big part of our day to day lives, there is a big difference with the lyrics, the music video, the content, and the whole story behind it. My opinion is that when male artist sing, to be honest their music is more negative. This is especially apparent in Hip-Hop/Rap music but other music genres as well. Women are represented very badly and can affect future generations of both males and females when that listen to this music. This also comes from the fragile masculinity I feel us men have at times. Males feel they have to be dominant all the time and vulgar lyrics demeaning females is one way they can do this. When she sings, her music is usually geared towards women because of her lyrics and content that are in her music videos. This is very apparent in her song irreplaceable. . The song's lyrics are about the breakdown of a relationship with an unfaithful man and the song contains a message about female empowerment. In the music video she is also seen supporting herself which is also a sign of modern gender roles in society where the females does not depend on the male. For example, the rap artist French Montana is known to do this in most of his songs. To start his voice in his music is on the lower octave which shows his masculinity. To continue, his lyrics always consist of calling females the b word as well as referring to them as tools. In his videos he also has girls literally naked and depict them as there only for him and his friends.
