In my opinion, the main barrier is the fact that some teachers refuse to implement new learning practices in their classroom. They think that the "old way" that they have always used is enough for them and their students.
When they are exposed to new ways of teaching they discard them right away without even trying to understand.

The lack of technology in schools/at home is also a problem.
Most of my students don't have a computer/tablet in their home.
In school (if we are lucky) we have one computer that sometimes doesn't even turn on.
Without the correct materials it's impossible to try and implement new teaching practises.

The stronger barriers that may limit implementation of blended learning in my school are: some teachers resistance to embrace new teaching approaches and technological setbacks. To overcome them, teacher training should be fostered - we do that, even through Erasmus+ KA1 teacher training programmes and KA2 multilateral schools partnerships. Also, the constant attempt from school leaders and the ICT team to make things work, to find solutions, to fix what's not working, to try to get sponsors to increment our school technological world.

Not every teacher is inclined to use technologies in their classroom. We've had a lot of teachers trainings after attending an Erasmus+ course about technologies but traditional model is still very strong. Lack of practical computer skills is still present among teachers and students. But work can be done in teams and in each team there must be at least one who has those skills and they will help the others.

In my school, the obstacles that limit the implementation of blended learning concern: the instability of the Internet connection, the presence in the classrooms of non-functioning ITC which are often combined with a laptop that is also not very functional.
There are no tablets or other technological tools.
To overcome these problems, a better connection and more numerous and more modern multimedia and technological devices should be available.

In my school, at times, when there's a lot of internet traffic, when educators are working with wi-fi instead of direct lan, there will be either lagging, interference or missed moments from a session. The lag results in some confusion as the delay defers from one student to the other... I suggested to have a lan connection in every part of the school and the administration is working on it.

With regards to the recipients, we can not control the speed of their internet account, we can only suggest they get a better deal.

In our gymnasium, all the teachers have attended the IT literacy courses. Our students are also good at ICT. We have already got used to synchronous/asynchronous learning, hybrid learning.
Certainly, everything what is new causes some resistance, but I think blended learning will be welcome and all barriers if there arise will be taken as challenges or simply temporary situations.

In my view (and at my school) the implementation of BL faces the following problems:
- some teachers' resistance to experimenting with the possibilities of BL;
- some students may still have some difficulties in using IT;
- technical problems due to lack of quality computers at school;
- poor internet access at the School;
- the most needy students do not have a computer or tablet at home;
- problems with internet access at students' homes.
The Ministry of Education is distributing new computers to schools and students. It also intends to improve internet access at school.
A national teacher training program is also now starting, especially for IT use issues.
My School is going to hold SELFIE to get to know more about the real situation of our situation.

Not everybody has access to proper equipment and sufficient inernet conection (including teachers). In addition, teachers are lost in trying to be self-educated on a chaotic subject. Which tools should we prefer? How can we use them? How can we help the students and their parents. Usually there are technical problems... sometime teacher seems to be a technical problem solver.
The whole distance learning is new for many of us so teachers must study and learn more about methods and techniques, so they can make distance learning work.

Parental support is really crucial during blended learning. Unfortunately, sometimes parents can be clueless too of what and how they can help their children to thrive within this approach.

Family socio-economical status is also play a significant role. Unless the state provides or subsidises the necessary gadget and internet data, some parts of blended learning approach might not be affordable and accessible for some students. This can affect the existing gap between the haves and have nots.

Even with the experience of emergency remote teaching many teachers are stuck on their ways and reluctant to change their practices: it has worked for decades and some feel they lack motivation and skills. Mandatory changes and the pression for immediate results are also putting some extra stress on everyone. Lack of equipment or obsolete one (at home and at school) is a hurdle.

We have to embrace change, life is no longer as it used to be 2 or 3 decades ago; the same goes for teaching and learning. Technology is here to stay, it can be extremely useful and a great way to appeal to students, but practical training is needed. It takes some time to adapt, a few months or a whole school year, it cannot be done overnight. A collaborative approach among teachers and school departments alongside technical support would be beneficial.

In my school the barriers are similar to those in other schools - slow or none at all internet connection, old-fashioned equipment, teachers who are not interested in learning new technology and tools to enable interesting and modern lessons for their students, teachers who can't speak English and for most tools you should be good at English or those who are simply 'tired of learning new things every now and then...' Schools or even better government should enable more time for teachers to learn these tools and become more confident when using them. And more money for the teachers (because they use their own internet at home) would be a good motivation, too!!!

The biggest obstacle in organizing the learning process is the different speeds and connections of the Internet. For my first-graders, there is also a lack of computer skills. Parental help is often needed.
My colleagues are active and learning to learn new platforms and tools. But general fatigue is observed. It is one thing to prepare and conduct lessons, but most of the time it takes giving students feedback on their performance, writing suggestions and comments.

In Portugal teacher are getting old. the annual report "Education at a Glance", states that teachers under the age of 30 represent a minority in Portugal (2%). We are a country of “old teachers” that often refuse to change their teaching methods, and where others are not even able do so, mainly because they are not available to leave their comfort zone.

at this moment we are trying to design a long term transition to Blended Learning. The first barrier we encounter is the lack of a pedagogical vision. Without a clear vision, and with many small initiatives starting up, we will end up in a chaos and that will be demotivating. There fore we are working on clarifying what we exactly want. Once that is set, we'll see better what projects do fit in to that vision and what is needed to fulfill our ambitions. Of course I agree with some Portuguese colleagues, who say that some teachers (I am not sure if only the older ones) resist change and the use of new approaches to the teaching-learning process.
However, the pandemic situation forced and accelerated these processes a lot, the evolution made in this last year would certainly equal the progress of many "normal" years.
One of the basic obstacles is training, both for teachers and students (despite the huge steps that have been taken in this area) and the access to digital technology for schools and families (computers and fast internet access, especially in the interior of our country).

* teachers are not ready for the change to BL : they don't want to change the way they teach because they think that it's too difficult and they are not used to use technology

The first problem we have to face is the lack training. Italian teachers are not prepared to work with BL.: it's up to our own self study. Then we have to change the mentality of "old " teachers who don't even know how to turn a computer on. They keep on transmitting knowledge in the traditional way and during these days of pandemic the students have lost their interest for the school as they get bored listening to a teacher talking on a computer for hours!!!
Schools don't have a proper internet connection and so the families.

Here are some barriers that may limit implementation of blended learning in my school:

Students’ attitude towards learning methods that require autonomy and commitment. Some of them are very passive – they just want to know what is going to be tested, they are more worried about summative evaluation.

Teachers’ attitude – they feel pressured by national exams and just want to teach the contents that are going to help their students get the best grades. Moreover, they are aging, and some don’t feel very motivated to try new pedagogical methods. It’s important to say that aging that does not necessarily mean lack of ICT skills as some younger teachers are reluctant to try new methods as well.

ICT at school – enough computers available in the classrooms and good Internet connection.

Legislation – teachers and classes timetables – how can they be organised to make blended learning in different scenarios possible?

What can be done to overcome these barriers?

Professional training for teachers;

Help students realise that they need to be proactive.

There are many barriers and challenges to be overcome at school. On the one hand, students are not used to being autonomous and don't take learning very seriously when left to their own devices. On the other hand, schools are ill-equipped, have serious connectivity problems and teachers and staff have no training in technological tools. Besides, with age comes rigidity and the lack of willpower to change. At home, families do not have the equipment or a good internet connection.
Education ministries are trying to build the house by starting on the roof and that is an impossible task. New teachers need to learn a new approach to teaching in university. There will have to be a higher and regular investment in education in most countries of the world. With each government comes new ideas for education and none last time enough to see if they really work.
Now with the Covid-19 crisis, there are new ideas being implemented in too little time and we, teachers, know that the learning process takes time and cannot be imposed or rushed just because it serves a political agenda.

Most students are not used to being independent and responsible in learning. Their most important thing is grade, not knowledge. This is the fault of the education system, which only allows students with the best grades to enroll in higher schools, colleges.
My school has a good internet connection, but students don't have enough tablets and laptops.
Some teachers initially reject anything new in teaching and stick to the old, frontal way of teaching.
Teachers have more and more duties and responsibilities, but the salarie isn't motivating for more and more work. Lack of education for teachers, lack of teaching materials. Most of the material is created by the teachers themselves. In a word, blended learning is on the "back of teachers" and I believe that we are real magicians who must love their job very much in order to carry out everything that is required of us.

The schools lack the infrastructure.
Some colleagues are reluctant to implement technology in their lessons, they teach in the most traditional way, and this leads to a kind of comparison between teachers in the same school. Very often, the parents are more supportive to those teachers who give a lot of photocopies and not of the ones who suggest an educational on-line game. Parent attitudes influence their children as well. Some students consider a real lesson to complete a photocopy rather than to revise vocabulary with the use of an on-line game.

I can say that there are not many barriers to conduct blended learning in many large schools as they have enough tools and experienced teachers who have ideas how to implement the blended learning in their classes. Thus, minister of education has to support the schools which are located in the rural areas with technological devices and internet connection to overcome the barriers. I also agree with some of the teachers saying that the teachers do not have enough salary and they may not afford to have the technological devices, as many of the teachers have kids to follow some programs on the internet as well.

To try to have fun, to experiment, to trust the experiences proposed in formative contexts like this or like the Ministerial ones;
To network and have training supervision;
To overcome the era of judgments to experience continuous improvement as a possibility of development;
To make communications between the parts of the school more effective and faster;
With these problems solved among adults, it is likely that any learning path will be more effective. The problem is not the tools, nor the pandemic, the problem is to understand and talk about the perspective with which we implement them.

An important lack of technological resources is a big disadvantage. However, this year we are receiving many devices (this morning in fact we added 18 laptops to our stock) and not all of them are being used regularly. Showing teachers real examples of introducing this approach will help, but if they feel they 'are being taken for a ride' it will not work. I know it's difficult, but we need to be sincere and show both pros and cons not to loose our colleagues' trust

First of all there is the technical issue: Internet, wifi not working properly at our school. Then most teachers aren‘t up-to-date with new teaching methods and/or digital tools to help students collaborate, participate from home. And then there is the lack of collaboration among teachers. Classroom management is often done alone instead of working in teams.

I think that, nowadays, major barrier may be internet connection: in spite all improvements, there are still some limitations in what concerns bandwidth at school. Besides, if we want to divide class in different/smaller groups of students, in order to have them working in different spaces (inside school), there are some limitations caused by lack of space.

With the digital leaders academy established in our school, many trainings on technology have been given to teachers and they are continuing. We applied the blended learning model with the kindergarten 5-6 age group students. We had no internet or hardware problems. However, as an age group feature, students needed parent support. Relevant parents presented the activities to their children on time. Students were very eager for blended learning. However, not all parents were good at supporting.

I think that a loose bond between students and school is the main reason for all kinds of barriers. The majority of our students are not enthousiastic about new methods.

The main barriers are placed or created by teachers but they are not always responsible for that (students, families and the state play their own destructive roles). We are afraid of adopting new learning methods and tools and this seems quite reasonable: we were taught the old way, we feel safe with that, we have tested its “successful” results. New ways of teaching and learning demand readiness every single moment in class even for learning subjects or topics that we have not, so far, the appropriate training or teaching experience. That consists a reason of avoidance. Blended learning is still a “terra incognita” for the majority and its benefits are still under research. The situation must be supported by adjustments or changes to the curricula, too. There are too many endogenous contradictions in them, concerning the suggestions of blended learning (e.g the available time for the completion of the teaching courses, the implementation of the modules the way it was, in the first place, scheduled …).

For a new learning model to be successfully implemented, educators should be aware of its strengths and its weaknesses while holding the skills to develop further the first and manage accordingly the second. Moreover, distant learning demands the constant support of the parents especially for the younger students. Stakeholders, educators, parents and students should work in harmony holding common beliefs and aspirations about the final learning objectives and show their support for such a learning approach. I believe that the main obstacle to the implementation of blended learning in my school is the reluctance or even refusal on the part of teachers to change from traditional methods to new, as this would mean more work, reseach, experimentation, which they are unwilling to do. In our school, we paid a lot of attention to teacher preparation and agreements on how we will teach, what tools we will use. At school, we put together a team of teacher consultants who teach other teachers how to work with a variety of digital tools. I read all these beautiful thoughts written by colleagues and most of the comments refer to the reluctance of teachers to learn new things and new techniques. The problem of lack of equipment in schools or lack of fast internet is often mentioned. The real (common) problem, however, is the low funding of the education system and the salaries of teachers, which, at least in Greece, instead of increasing, decreased during the crisis. Teachers have to struggle with too many students every day, to do their homework properly, to correct hundreds of tasks every day, and in the midst of all this to be willing to constantly learn new things, all at the lowest wages. In my opinion, the most serious obstacle to the spread of new technologies in education is the lack of motivation from teachers, mainly financial incentives.

The first problem is related to technology. The pupils have bad internet connections, and/or old devices. The second issue is related to the lifestyle. most of what is already been said is true: lack of tools, lack of space, parents criticism and colleagues not able to work in a team. I also think that sometimes we fear taking risks, the risk of being the only one in the school who tries new paths and strategies. We should be more confident and accept the risk of making mistakes or failing. Our own self is maybe the biggest barrier.
Solution:
There's no recipe, each school has its own problems and priorities but maybe we might accept the idea that trying new strategies is not risking our own life and sometimes colleagues just need an example to follow.

The biggest problem is the lack of conditions that many students have at home for learning. Physical and emotional conditions. It is not enough to have a laptop and internet access. Without physical conditions (a quiet space to work) and without emotional conditions (there are many unstructured families) it is difficult for a student to be motivated to learn at a distance. Many of the problems have already been mentioned (space, equipment, teacher training...). It seems to me that one issue that I consider very important has not yet been mentioned: the organisation of the school in general. The greatest challenge to achieve working blended learning for my students will be to change their way of thinking and learn how to organise their time for learning effectively. Before proposing technological tools to teachers, the need should be created to learn how to use them, making clear the advantages they can bring and the pedagogical-educational approach on which they are based. Furthermore, it is necessary to propose tools whose learning curve is not excessive (for both teachers and students); training by technicians is unuseful: the problem is not knowing which button to press on a given software or platform, but knowing how to design an educational intervention supported by that tool. So the appropriate training is what needs to be further implemented, maybe from expert and enthusiastic teachers to other teachers.

During the 1st lockdown in Portugal (March-June 2020) the big issue was that too many students didn't have the adequate equipment and a propoer Internet connection. There is still a need for equipment, internet access and training (for teachers and preparation classes for students). The government is implementing a digital program that will provide equipment and internet access as well as digital courses for teachers. There are a number of digital boards and reliable internet connection. The problems is that we have a strict and knowledge-packed national curriculum, which we have to cover. It is a challenge to integrate interesting, student-centered ways of learning most of the time because of the time pressure. Blended learning makes teachers overwork. Students can experience cognitive load, as well. Credibility of Sources and plagiarism become even a bigger issue. The technology also can be challenging rather than useful.

Implementing blended learning requires additional preparation time and effort by the teacher. However, the benefits of blended learning for student learning may incur the additional workload cost.
We should not assume that all students are technologically literate. Recent high school students may be "digital natives," but not all of them have hands-on experience with educational technology tools, online learning environments and teleconferencing tools for educational purpoces . The great majority of students know how to use Facebook, Tic Tok, Instagram and smartphones, but that's the limit.
A lot of them may be easily frustrated when confronted with new technology. To address that issue, I propose an introductory skills class for students, in order to introduce them to the various tech platforms and web tools.

In my school students enjoy blended learning, especially when it involves gamifying the lesson. They consider it funny, interesting, dynamic.
BUT... There are two aspects to be taken into account, though: time and national exam curriculum approach.
1. Time: in order to create a digital activity which merely takes 5-10 minutes (in order to create a more dynamic lesson), the teacher spends 2 or even more hours. Then, he/she needs to prepare the rest of the lesson resources (course material to be uploaded, the explanations, etc.). Parents don't appreciate this "playing around" in high school, because they think teaching must be "serious" and they have in mind exams and university admission.
2. National graduation examination: I teach Romanian literature, a subject, mandatorily included in the national examinations. When preparing students for the exam rigours, there is little space for creativity. Students need to get prepared for the exam, according to the inflexible structure of the test pattern and even they are not very willing to experience diversity.

I have read many of the posts already here. I agree with teacher resistance and technical problems.
Still, how about parental education? Are parents in your country really involved with their children's learning process? Do they care or do anything about it when a teacher tells them his/her child doesn't do homework, doesn't study, doesn't bring the material to class?
Any learning is not facilitated by parents; blended learning is even worse. Many students just won't do it or will try to copy form others.
During the last confinement, a parent who could not control online class attedance by his 12 year-old son said to me, over the phone, '🤬 the F... person who invented this type of learning!'

What are the barriers that limit implementation of blended learning in your school?

I work in a school where there aren’t accessible computers for all teachers (only 1 or two). More over the monitors are very shabby you can barely see…I guess the computers too. I haven’t use them; I use my personal computer in my place.

Some students use their mobile phones or tablets and not a desktop or a laptop.

Internet connection fluctuates many times.

BL requires a lot of effort, extra hours by the teacher. The work to be done by the teacher includes the following:

Adapt the curriculum and the operational framework to this new approach of BL
Explore – get a brief of the most appropriate – suitable tools
Find the correct blend of BL
Integrate cognitive, pedagogical pillars to the BL
Plan, do, act, check cycle for the BL. Ongoing evaluation of the BL is necessary in order to succeed the learning objectives
Back up plans in case of failure
Seminars and always keep tabs on what’s more effective
Communicate with the peers

What could be done to overcome them?

Teachers have to constantly update skills for on-line learning as it evolves regularly.

Government preparedness must be ahead of the teacher’s.

Invest in education is a must.

The ministry is necessary to develop BL toolkits for all the lessons-modules, Ready to implement by the teachers.

Though, if I consider the students with special needs, I can assure you that they still have some problems of connectivity and parental support when having classes at distance. Learning through technology demands reliable hardware, easy to use software and high bandwidth network connection, in addition to skillful, trained staff that supports the users and maintain the system. Quite a lot of things, which are not guaranteed for every single student as should be the case. The COVID19 pandemic revealed an alarming reality: not all students & their families can afford it, thus injustices and inequality will be clear on the map

Fear of technology and limited engagement

At first, the unknown that is also quite different from the traditional brick-and-mortar approach, may cause mistrust, limited engagement & reservations. But once students become familiar with the new technology and recognize the benefits, I think that such problems will gradually recede.

E-learning disregard

In the beginning there might be some reluctance or unwillingness toward implementing e-learning. Administration (lower & higher) may be unaware of the benefits of e-learning and therefore be reluctant to invest in such an approach. Teachers may be skeptical about the outcomes and prefer to resort to traditional methods. Students may be unmotivated or unfamiliar with the role of technology.

Difficulty in material

New material has to be designed, created, implemented, evaluated and re-adjusted. That’s not such an easy thing to do for many teachers, especially if they are asked to enter the field with no or few respective skills in technology and its applications

Assessment difficulties

E-learning will, sooner or later, bring forth the issue of assessment. Manual assessment will cause difficulties for teachers and absense of a reliable software infrastructure will only make things worse

In my opinion, the biggest hurdle, other than that of a technological nature, is that all teachers haven't the same approach to the way of teaching (which is OK) and they don't have the same criteria for "testing" students knowledge and skills. If I try to use blended learning with students, and other teachers use, for example, presentations or the use of textbooks or something else, as the "only way to apply technology", students resist because that way of learning "is difficult for them". In my opinion, the main barrier is the fact that some teachers refuse to implement new learning practices in their classroom because of different reasons and they strongly need to be motivated in different ways. For example, eTwinning events can help them. I agree that teachers need more time for preparing students for the exams and they have to keep strictly the curricular. In my opinion the main problem in my Country is methodological:
- all levels of education are mainly based on program coverage more than on understanding and knowledge/know-how acquisition
- teachers, with the exclusion of primary school, have almost never a pedagogical and andragogical formation

a) Students and their families have to pay and buy the digital devices and the internet connection. That means: a lot of students who have no money to afford, they can not attend the lessons on line. They attend lessons by mobile phones and have bad internet connection.
b) Blended learning is a new teaching method, so parents and students are suspicious of it.
c) The curriculum is based on the book content. In addition, the usual school ending exams enforce the power of curriculum. But, how can I teach interesting on line, when I limited by it? Consider that, in National Exams books content must be written exactly the same, as it is written in the book.

My experiences on this topic are quite negative. A year ago ... as we know ... our schools closed too. I work in special vocational education, where I work in parallel ... synchronous and asynchronous with my students. Adservio / Zoom real time, Whatsapp / Messanger in time fiction and student availability. Students with SEN, moderate and mild mental deficiency, do not all master the knowledge of IT, ICT. They do not use the devices skillfully, and being from disadvantaged social categories they do not have access to high-performance equipment and internet signal. That's how we adapted as we went. I use the smartphone of family members, siblings, parents. The signal in the public space or of the parents.

I notice how easy it is to think about the barriers to implementation. However, it is more difficult to develop measures to overcome the barriers. There are many obstacles in blended learning, for example lack of technological devices in every household, difficulties in using them, lack of (stable) Internet connection, no space for “isolation” in the house etc. Furthermore, in preschool education, we have the extra difficulty of 4- to 6-year old children not knowing how to read/write or how to use properly the equipment alone, which makes it necessary for an adult to be standby and help them. Not all parents have the free time or are always in the mood after work to collaborate. Also, it is quite risky because some of them “misunderstand” their role in the whole procession and this ends up wrongly (not in benefit of their children).

Cost: creating a course from scratch or adapting an existing one requires a team that includes the teacher, an instructional designer, and technical staff (IT, audio & video) This costs a lot of money to start, even if there will be a return on investment in the following years.

For me, in order to overcome them, teacher's, student's and parent's willingness, cooperation and efforts are not the solution as far as funding of the education system remains low....
All governments have to "built" on education not only via words but via actions, so as to really support the schools, the teachers, the students, and the parents.
Who is more familiar to identify ways to overcome these barriers than the school community who have faced the obstacles? None asked to express opinions! Instead of this, they create teams of "specialists" to decide for us and our students...At the end they will provide something that isn't adapted to each school's barriers as most of them have no idea of public schools...and design taking in mind the ideal -not the average- school environment.

I don't see a proper barrier that could limit the implementation of blended learning approach.I have enthusiastic colleagues who love using technology and since this pandemic they improved their digital competences.The barrier is from the part of some lazy students who don't cooperate when being online, so working alone , unsupervised they are free to use the technology only for entertainment and communication with friends, although we propose them many nice digital resources.
When working in class with technology we noticed there were some who were doing something else except for the task given.( eg. filming the class without our permmission ) -so technology without a proper and clear supervision can be dangerous, well eventhough they signed an agreement when to use the technology in class.

What I think the worst barrier is our opinion of what to teach and the student's preparation for doing something online. As the pandemic started, we have all been thrown into online teaching. Last year it supposed to be for two months at last, so I tried various methods and techniques without any concept. This year I was thrown there again (it was announced in October, on Sunday, valid from Monday) with a little bit of better organisation, but still, I hadn´t time to think about the concept of how to make it fun, creative and how to motivate my students to do something. So for next year, I need to prepare first of all myself and my students that we are going to learn in a completely different way.

The main problem is the lack of technological devices, as well as the access to a fast internet. Only 40% of our classrooms have a computer with Internet access, some of which don't have speakers or diret connection to the smartboard, none have cameras, and some need maintenance. However, a great effort is being done to overcome these situations. Another issue is teachers' digital competences. We are now working on that with the SELFIE platform.
Besides that, students are eager to learn with different tools (as we could state in these 10 weeks of on-line learning) and teachers ready to work.

The barriers are pretty much what I have already mentioned in the previous padlet:
- poor internet connection in school; in some places it doesn’t even work;

- students find it very difficult to use their smartphones in school;

- there is only one desktop per class and school has no computers, or not enough, for Ss;
- computers are mostly obsolete;
- Ss have different levels of autonomy and abilities;

- some Ss don’t have their parents’ support at home, which makes it difficult for them to work at home;

- some areas have no internet access;

- Ts have different levels of digital literacy.

Most of these problems can only be solved by fully implementing the digital change promised by the government. Things are beginning to change and some Ss have already received computers and have internet access, but there are still others we are waiting. However, this doesn’t, in itself, change the fact that most parents are not tech savy, some don’t even have an email or a smartphone. So, change should be global.

In my school what limits most the implementing of an effective blended learning is a too small group of colleagues who believe in it and are motivated to experiment.
Often being the only teacher in the class who uses different methodologies and tools strongly decreases their impact.
We also have many bonds due to the curriculum contents that increase year by year without increasing the time available. It seems to me that in our school we've got very similar problems to ones the colleagues from different countries mention here.
Our school (Jēkabpils Secondary School nr.2) is situated in a city with the population of about 22,000 people and more than 1,000 students study here. The school has recently gone through a major reconstruction and modernization, as a result of which we have got modern computers, tablet PCs, Smart Boards in each classroom with a very reliable internet connection. Our headmistress welcomes all novelties offered by school staff, which means there won't be any barriers for me to implement blended learning with my classes. But, on the other hand, the barriers may come from students:
* lack of technological skills,
* lack of motivation,
* absence of electronic devices,
* no or unstable internet connection,
* no support from parents.
In conclusion, I would like to say that we are at the beginning of blended learning implementation. And much support in this process should come from the government.

There is only one computer room which is used by the ICT teacher of course and for the rest of us there is one room equipped with an interactive board and a projector which we use in turns so that means it is not usually available. Our Intenet connection also is not very reliable and often fails us. So, for safety reasons I always download and store what I want to present to my students. And I do the activities IF and WHEN the projector room is free. I'm considering buying my own mini-projector to solve the problem as it is something that discourages not only my students but also me from pursuing such activities. There are of course class discussions, trips and school visits _at least there were before the pandemic and, hopefully, we'll return there- but online research and work has to be put aside or assigned for homework and the result is not always satisfying.
And of course let us also not forget that the mindset of traditionally thinking parents and even colleagues who question the effectiveness of BL in an exam-oriented educational system like ours, especially with regard to Senior High School, is another obstacle that has to be overcome.

The barriers in my school are similar to those described by many other teachers here.
1. My school has only one computer lab usually occupied by the ICT teacher as well as one other classroom with projector. Special arrangemnts have to be made in order to use any of these two classrooms yet they aren't always available.
2. The exam-oriented mentality of our educational system is very limiting, even for the subject i teach, english, where we don't really have to follow a very strict syllabus.
3. The mentality of the rest of the teachers who don't understand the need to use technology constantly (I do need to use it constantly).
4. Another obstacle I face is th e large number of students I have to teach every year (around 200, around 8-10 classes) which is overwhelming. Sometimes , though, I experiment with one class and if it works i apply t to other classes too.

In my school there are many barriers that limit the implemention of BL, starting with physical barriers: we work on small villages with old schools that have lack of digital equipment. In some of my schools we don't even have a wifi network and we just have a computer in each classroom, sometimes for 25 students. If we want to use the ICT classroom we have to book it because they are used by all the classes in the main school (1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles). While working at home we have similar problems... of course there are students with all the means, skills and support, but there are other students that don't have the physical means nor the skills or support to implement BL. Nevertheless we are trying to overcome these barriers our school has now a ICT technician that is helping some students and families to connect. The Portuguese government has sent some computer to schools for the most disadvantaged students and they are being delivered now, teachers are having training and the ones who consider this kind of learning important, like me, are trying to implement and participate in some activities and projects, like eTwinning and others. But there is a long way to go and I consider that one of the main barriers is also the resistance to change.

I, the teachers accompanying, and our students were like the Alice in Wonderland....fully equipped fully organized, digital classrooms, 3D classrooms, even mourning hall supported by psychologists. Ok, then I say to EU leaders: this the school we want all across the EU!For all of us! The Dendron College at Horst is a State School at Horst, the Netherlands East.

Portuguese schools are not prepared for blended learning.
We don't have classrooms equipped as to have one PC for each student. So, they would be forced to bring their own equipment from home. Apart from that, schools' internet connection is too slow and doesn't support everyone using it at the same time.
One other barrier to implementing blended learning is the lack of knowledge and motivation to implement something new and completely different from what has been used over the past decades. Sometimes, challenging situations are too time-consuming and we tend to avoid them. Furthermore, blended learning might not be fully understood as a great opportunity.

we need teacher training to feel more comfortable while adopting/ adapting new technologies and pedagogies ;
our teachers should be more motivated to face the new challenges and embrace a whole new world of pedagogical resources that can make learning more flexible and motivating;
our schools should be equipped with modern computers that really work...and with a good internet connection;
the curricula should be adapted to this new reality, too much doesn't mean quality learning;
our parents only want a score at the end of the term, they don't care if their children have learned or not;
time management will also be an issue;
we have classes with mixed abilities and this may cause some problems when implementing blended learning;
students might face some difficulties when learning on their own;
some students lack the technical skills required and don't have digital devices at home.

Everything starts in infrastructures and training. An economic effort has to be made. Also, as teachers we have to learn to work in teams, collboratively and try to learn from each other. Almost terrified initially I started exploring platforms and digital tools in order to stay connected with my students.
No training , no equipment available from school . Just what we had each one of us . The platforms unable to support this amount of users .
Under these circumstances we proudly managed to keep our students connected with school .
Blended learning is a long distance dream for us . Too good to be true I would dare say.
Teachers have to be trained but students have to be trained as well.

The only thing that's missing is vision and willingness to change. Almost everybody in my school thinks that this is temporary and that we will go back to what we had before the pandemic. That's why we don't have a solid pandemic plan or policy. We stil wait for someone to come and end the pandemic so that we can do things the way we were doing before. I think they have this question in mind "Why should I bother to train my teachers and staff and invest in these technologies if it is only temporary?" We need to change this in the first place.

I think the most important barriers to the implementation of a Blended learning environment would be our own insecurity about these models. To do this in a more professional way we would have to do some training. Also, some of us lack the technical skills to create ICT resources. These models imply a change in the way teachers, students and parents think about school/ classes. We would need to change mentalities but there are also some more practical concerns: changes in space (most classrooms are not prepared to have the different "stations" for instance), resources, internet connection, personal computers. Our ME is now lending personal computers to the students but even so, some parents don't accept them (probably they are afraid the students will break them, or something like that). I have seen some of these models work in isolated examples: a teacher is given a special room with the space he/she needs, computers and other resources/ materials but I can't imagine how this would work for everybody.

When you hear your colleagues comment s: " she is doing some stupid projects with her students, whose knowledge is poor" , at first you are schocked, cause... let us first deffine "knowledge" before we qualify someone's knowledge as poor. Knowing swimming techniques, does not make us a swimmer. These "stupid projects of mine, eTwinning/Erasmus+ or PBL-classes) are actually blended learning classes, which give my students opportunity to "learn to swimm" , how unperfect their techniques might be.

First of all there are barriers concerning the teaching staff: most teachers' digital deficiency or even illiteracy and therefore unwillingness to explore alternative and more advanced teaching techniques is a limiting factor. Another limiting factor has to do with poor internet connection at school as well as in many homes. What is more, equipment at school is old fashioned and needs updating and upgrating. To do that, funds should be raised. As for the teachers, they should be helped and guided by programmes and seminars provided by the state.

Two family members cannot take their lessons in the same room at the same time. I'm in a rural area, so there are students and teachers who have difficulty in getting cell phone or internet service, although this has been improving. Lack of computers, webcams, also come to mind. Then the conditions at home are sometimes lacking: not only are many parents unable to help their children, having several people at home studying or working means it might be impossible to have a room all to yourself to work. As to the type of work itself, where students have to be more self-sufficient, organized and responsible, many still have to work on that.

When I look at the comments of my fellow teachers, I can only agree with them. The same problems can be encountered in my school related to lack of equipments, bad internet connection, lack of digital skills and the lack of time for the teacher to prepare materials.
However, I think there is a bigger issue when it comes to the situation in Turkey. I think the most important thing that is lacking is intrinsic motivation in both teachers and students to develop themselves and become autonomous learners. In the new digital era, being able to motivate oneself is essential to survive and to be successful.
So while we need to work on the technical issues that might come with blended learning/teaching, we also need to focus on how we should motivate students.

The main barrier that I think we need to overcome is the fact that students have very little motivation for their own studies, yes there are students that take control of their education, but many of the students I teach feel that if they show up then they should pass. This motivation, or lack there of, is amplified online since the teacher has no way of controlling or encouraging students to do their work, meaning the ones that struggle in class really fall behind when online. 1. the agreement on what can be done out of classrooms is equally valuable to traditional education practice. Older teachers and parents of all ages can disagree with the above and that's the main problem.
2. All things need time to be tested. I don't think that anything new or necessary because of covid-19 or 23 and so on should be praised so easily. Let's clear our minds and purposes and gather to discuss about the new horizons.
3. Students easily think that when you're outside classrooms there is no need to try to learn and cooperate.
4. Teachers are underestimated a lot during the last years. Blended learning sends blended message to all. Everybody needs information and communities have to work on what the limits are.
5. Blended learning without supervising (hopefully self-supervising) seems dangerous to me. I have seen teachers breaking any type of rules or school schedule taking students outdoors without a certain method or planning. After behaviours like this students misunderstand things. We have to be honest and servers of common purposes. My destination is not to destroy what others create.
6. As far as online education is concerned I think it's a time of emergency till the pandemic disappears. When you ask for online classes you should first offer to anyone involved what is needed. This didn't happen. Many teachers, maybe almost everyone did their best so far, Students maybe had a hard time. Maybe they enjoyed their home. I am afraid that we didn't estimate the danger of praising the new era. Finally, talking about small islands in Greece maybe all these are a test of on line schools, where no teacher has to be placed officially there, so the goverment will not have the weight to pay some more.

To implement blended learning there are some problems that should be overcome. First teacher´s technological skills, many of them are not tech savvy and although the previous year tried to update their tech skills, they still struggle. The other problem is related with students and their lack of interest when the class is online, sometimes because of laziness and others because of poor connection.
Teachers should be encouraged to update their tech skills and their teaching methods to adapt them to these new times.

space in the classroom, internet connection, devices, tecnological skills (teachers and students), not everyone think that this way of learning is more efective sometimes. But everyone have no condition for all new aproach of learning, some colleuges still think other way and do not asept .

Fear of infection and misinformation coming from social media plays a big role in the challenges that will be created when looking into the implementation of blended learning. Technological aspects also play a big role, as some students have their own router, others are sharing smartphones with siblings... blended learning will not solve the problems we do face on the home-front, it can only help us to try and level the playing field for all in school.

in order to use blended learning, I think it takes several factors like:

- massive training for teachers

-training for students on the proper use of devices

- training also for families

- adequate infrastructure

Starting with these assumptions, I believe that blended learning could be created that takes into account the past but above all the present and the future.

Reliable internet connection, student engagement and self discipline. Lack of equipment, Lack of teacher training.
Teachers should be prepared and educated on blended learning. Schools should have suitable equipment.

Yaprak Hazman, Turkey Teachers should develop their own individual skills on ICT. That is the biggest barrier to implementing blended learning. I agree with the comments including not having a reliable internet connection or even a device.
