What left the greatest mark on you as a child?

"As a child, my parents were not around to be able to provide me the same kind of care that the other kids were able to be provided. They were gone all the time and weren't around to take care of me as much. The most memorable moments of my childhood, they were't there to be able to share with me. This all left the biggest scar on my childhood. The fact that I practically was having to raise myself was the toughest obstacle to overcome when I needed my parents."

It states in the novel, “They shared a doom against which virtue was no defense." (Capote 105). How does this quote represent your feelings towards your parents?

"The quote about Dick and I represents our inner doom that we both had realized when we had killed the Clutter family. It was realized that we had done something wrong and we both had an internal knowledge of that. The doom however was on a different level for both of us. I knew the doom I had from when i was a child was now coming back to what I was doing now. My feelings towards my parents may have come out in the killing, making me feel more doomed throughout the process."

It is said that traits of an adult that have experienced neglect are traits such as being hard on yourself, lack a sense of belonging, are proud of their independence, and feel that they have not met their goals in life, do you feel as if these traits are similar to you (Finch)?

"The traits an adult experiences as an adult absolutely reflect the way you were raised as a child. I feel as though I am not good enough and that I haven't accomplished all that I am capable or are expected to do. I also feel as if I am hard on myself and don't feel like I get the right amount of credit that I should. The way that these traits reflect is that the adults that were neglected never had the parents to lift their spirits or support them when they were feeling upset, so it is harder to not be as hard on yourself as an adult."

Do you feel as though your actions you take as an adult have to do with the way you were treated as an adult?

"I think many of my actions come out from anger towards my childhood. Having been neglected makes it hard to have all happy actions and to be satisfied with the way you live life. The way that I decide to act comes from the way that I was raised. Since I practically was having to live and raise myself, I don't know what the right and wrong situations are sometimes, which makes it easy to realize that many of my actions do come from my childhood."

If you had lived a different childhood, do you think you would have not killed the Clutter family?

"If I would have had a safer and more relaxed childhood, the Clutter family more than likely would still be alive. A lot of what I did was out of anger towards my parents and made me act as hatred towards other families. I think if my mentality were better and weren't as beaten up from my childhood, it would be different. My childhood has a lot to do with what I did as a child and how I acted. I took a lot of anger out on a lot of people but I was unable to realize it until it was brought to my attention. If i would have had a different childhood, I think the murder wouldn't have occurred, and everyone would be in a different situation."
