*The book does not contain real imagery of Rachel or the environment to which she was dedicated.
*As a nonfiction text, nonfiction features, such as titles, captions, glossary and index were not included.
*As I read this book I immediately connected to the point outlined in the Module 2 readings that nonfiction books can include storytelling elements, and that is exactly what this text did. While it was devoted to informing the reader about the remarkable character, it took time to include detail that we often experience when reading fiction texts.
*The book did encompass major events in the life of Rachel Carson, all that were necessary in showing the reader the long road she journeyed to become the well known environmentalist that she is today.
*Some events were simply touched on, while others were explored in more detail.
*Dates were included in the text for events such as her birth, the release date of her book, and her death.
*The book took notice to the struggles she endured being a woman seeking a job in the science field as well as brought attention to the fact that the work she did was work that many women did not do at the time.
*At closing of the book, recognition was brought to the laws that Rachel's book kick started.
*An epilogue the included additional, detailed information of the effects of Silent Spring.

*The book does not contain real pictures, rather colorful illustrations that coincide with the text.
*There are captions of the illustrations that quickly reiterate what the text already established. However, there are not nonfiction features, such as headings, table of content, and glossary.
*The book highlighted Rachel's early love that developed for the sea early on describing an interaction with a conch shell that fostered her curiosity of ocean life.
*Recounted Rachel's first time being published when she was 10 years old, which started her path towards the later author she became.
*Recognized that Rachel was the only woman in the marine biologist field at the time.
*Told of her success as a writer with other titles that allowed Rachel to become a full time author.
*The books timeline ended with the death of Rachel Carson.

*Both texts infuse nonfiction elements with fiction elements, combining factual information to produce a timeline of events that lead Rachel Carson to become the environmentalist we all know her to be.
*Both texts end with the major and impacting event of the publication of Rachel Carson's book, Silent Spring.
*Neither books include real photographs, a glossary, captions, or headings.
* There was a good abundance of information included in both books making them both heavy with content for children.
