Before meeting with parents to discuss academic planning for college, I will meet with the student to understand the students academic and extracurricular interests. Based on this info, I will provide advice and college prep plan to share with parents.
In doing this, parents see I understand the interests of their child, have considered strategies to build those interests to make applications more competitive while also keeping parent interests for child in mind. If interests of parent and child differ for future, I include both interests in my conversations.

Private talk and email. Private talk will help me understand the student better. For example,a girl in my class is very emotional,and I talk with her privately and know it's hard for her to control her emotion,so I changed her seat and she started focus and love this class.

I set clear structures and routines in lesson with opportunities for students to ask questions about what we are learning.

I also regularly ask them about their day, weekend, and how their other classes are going, this gives me an insight to their attitude towards school, what they do outside of school and feelings towards other subjects.
