According to History.com ,the Khmer Rouge subsequently established the State of Democratic Kampuchea, and instituted what was arguably the most radical experiment in social engineering of the twentieth century. In an effort to "purify" the "Khmer race" What this paragraph is saying is how the Khmer rouge wanted to purify the Cambodian race and make it a perfect Utopian society.

Acording to History.com, To create an absolutely classless Utopian society, the Khmer Rouge began by emptying all Cambodian urban centers of their population, abolishing banking, finance and currency, outlawing all religions, reorganizing traditional kinship systems into a communal order, and eliminating private property so completely that even personal hygiene supplies were communal. This is stating how and who they wanted to kill to make the society more perfect then how it already was, or becoming to be.

According to History.com, the cost in human life was high. Of the total Cambodian population of some 7 to 8 million in 1975, various estimates put the death toll over the following three years and eight months at 15% to 40% of the total. The official tally published by the successor regime to the Khmer Rouge sets the number of dead at 3.1 million. This is showing the percents of how many people are dead and tallying and putting in percent how many people the Khmer Rouge killed and executed during the genocide.

By April 1975, a Communist group known as the Khmer Rouge, led by Pol Pot, seized control of Cambodia, renaming the country Democratic Kampuchea. Civil war had existed in Cambodia since 1970. Between 1970 and 1973, during the Vietnam War, the United States bombed much of the countryside of Cambodia and manipulated Cambodian politics to support the rise of pro-West Lon Nol as the leader of Cambodia. The Khmer Rouge used the United States’ actions to recruit followers and as an excuse for the brutal policies they exercised when in power.
