         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. The targeted users in this advertisement are teenagers and people who are generally online and up to date with the memes going around. I know this because the company is feeding into the memes about the Duolingo bird sending out aggressive reminders to do your daily lessons, like the "Spanish or vanish" meme phrase associated with the app. Typically, teenagers are the ones making and seeing these memes, which is why I would argue they are the main target audience of this ad.<br>2. The ad gets people's attention by having a sort of intense, "scary movie trailer" vibe, which absolutely plays into the memes. It even got *my* attention, because usually, you don't expect companies to go with the jokes made about them, especially if those jokes might give the app a bad rep to those who aren't "in on it." (For example, someone who is not a member of the younger generations might be creeped out or taken aback by the notion that the Duolingo bird is spying on you, or that it'll kidnap your family if you don't do your lessons. But that's just part of the inside joke, and it works well to advertise to those who get it.)<br>3. The feature of Duolingo that is highlighted in this ad is the insistent push notifications that the app sends out to remind&nbsp;you to do your daily lesson. This is highlighted because these reminders are exactly the reason Duolingo became such a meme in the first place. I wouldn't know that Duolingo existed if I had not seen the memes and found the context for them. Overall, it's a smart marketing strategy to go with the memes rather than fight against them. It makes Duolingo feel more in touch with its audience.</div>]]></description>
