Manuel Bonifacio is a father to his four children, a grandfather to his grandchildren, and an uncle to his nephew who he lives with.  He appeared to be an affectionate husband to his wife because despite her death he still visits her grave and talks to her dearly, sharing his daily experiences. Bonifacio is also portrayed as a lonely elder person who craves his children’s affection. Which elucidates the main conflict of hiding the truth of his health status because he wants his children to stay with him. Bonifacio was a former captain in his barangay but due to his old age, he retired and stayed at home. He seldom goes out of the house and usually wants to stay at home. Where it explained why he wanted to host his birthday party and burial in his home.

He has white hair and a beard, his back is bent forward, and his skin appears to be dry, wrinkly, and saggy. He also wears eyeglasses which indicates that he has poor eyesight. He walks slowly and his movements are limited to walking and sitting. Bonifacio was also diagnosed with cancer but later on, debunked and revealed that he has an infection which has accompanying symptoms of discomfort, cough, dyspnea, and chest pain.

An aging family member could impact the family in terms of their relationship, responsibilities, and priorities. With the presence of an elder person at home, some families adjust their way of living to incorporate the activities of the elder person at home. An example of this is assisting the elder person in their daily activities. An elder person can also be a key player in the decision making and this can affect the concept and dynamic within the family.

Stages of Personality Development Theory was portrayed in the movie because Bonifacio, the main character, and the elderly in the family, were looking back and reflecting on whether he had accomplished a meaningful life. He was also craving his children’s affection and decided to refuse medical treatment when he found out that he was suffering from cancer. This particular theory can be implied in the nursing practice, especially in the provision of care to elderly patients. Because of their reflection and outlook on life some patients choose not to have medical treatments and just accept the reality of their disease bringing to their death.

In the movie, the main character experiences challenges related to his health when he was diagnosed by his physician with cancer. Later on, he relayed the information to his children and he decided that he did not want to have medical treatment and wanted to stay home with his children. A conflict arose when his children began fighting about their past and their beliefs, and experiences adding to the newfound information that he was not suffering from cancer. All of his children then again left him alone and he wished that he was suffering from cancer. Bonifacio then was subjected to loneliness and talked to his wife on the grave telling her to take her with him in the afterlife.
