A key character in Mexican history, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla is most remembered for having started the Mexican War of Independence. He gave the "Grito de Dolores," a fervent cry to arms, on September 16, 1810, which set the rebellion against Spanish colonial control. Peasants, Indigenous peoples, and mestizos were among the varied coalition of supporters brought together by Hidalgo's leadership to fight for independence. Even tho he died, he still had a amazing impact on the Mexican people and helped them believe in life.

Some of Iturbrides accomplishments include that he fought during the Independence War, he helped achieve independence from Spain. From fighting in the war he was made the emperor of Mexico.

The setbacks from Iturbide was that he wanted power for personal benefit and this injured the economy and social development of Mexico.
