This is until a small dot appears on her paper that initiates this spark of creativity that sets her on a journey or creative confidence. This book shows a great metaphor for how taking the first step and finding motivation in personal progress, not perfection. This book is great to help students see how trying new things can motivate students to believe in themselves.

Questions:

1) What does Vashti's journey teach us about how our mindset can shape our motivation?

2) How does the teacher's reaction to Vashti's dot impact her sense of self-worth and motivation?

3) How can we shift our mindset to be more open to growth and mistakes?

Summary: This book shows us the result of avoiding a problem that with time seems to grow bigger the more it is avoided. This book follows a young boy who runs away from his problem which as a result only makes it worse. As the boy realizes running away will not fix anything he inspects the problem closer. Ultimately, he sees that inside every problem is an opportunity to grow and do something remarkable.

Questions:

1) How does the narrator’s relationship with the problem change over time, and what does that suggest about the power of perspective?

2) How does avoidance affect motivation, and what strategies can help reverse that?

3) The story ends with the idea that inside a problem is an opportunity. Do you agree or disagree? Why?

My topic is student motivation, I chose this topic because I wanted to understand why motivating students is important in an educational setting. Not only does motivating students help with behavior management it also promotes healthy relationships between students and teachers. This is an important topic to teach to students because most of the time thy lack motivation and don't fully understand the advantages to being motivated and the positive outcomes there are. I would teach this topic by having students create a vison board in which they write or show their academic goals or personal goals that will motivate them individually and in school.

Questions:

1) What motivates you to try your best in school-and what makes it hard to stay motivated?

2) What helps you stay motivated in class or in an assignment?

3) Do you believe motivation comes from within yourself or from people around you (friends, parents, teachers, family members)?
