The general representation of interviewing from a tactics v. strategy perspective is interesting language (for several reasons), but the key piece for me involves how relational pre-planning is of the utmost importance. More broadly, this chapter gives a lot of key terms and names to ideas that I had an intuitive understanding of, but did not name in the same way. I think this will be helpful in my efforts to refine the specific approaches that I plan to use in future research.

Sometimes, I get caught up in the specific details, and this week's readings were quite dense in terms of the broad extent of ways to conduct qualitative research. This suggestion from the author reminds me to focus not on the labels, but on the core purpose of qualitative research, which is to gain an accurate, authentic, and respectful understanding of lived experiences and phenomena.

This week, for my synthesis slide, I made a Venn Diagram reflecting the overlapping concepts from the week's readings. I took this approach because I especially appreciated all the charts and diagrams in Tracy's chapter 7. They were very helpful in illustrating the thought processes researchers should undertake when considering how to approach their research. Also, I especially like the Tips and Tools Table 7.1, which shows how interviewers can pick and choose their approaches from across structures, types, and stances.
