Therefore, I want to ensure I say the "right thing." But when I don't take the time to listen, I miss the other perspective in the conversation. This lapse in listening causes frustration and is a barrier to me actually addressing the true issue that will result in lasting change.

When you feel upset or defensive, it’s hard to stay calm and focused. Instead of really hearing the other person, you start thinking about how to respond. When you aren't actively listening it makes it hard to understand the other person’s point of view.
