Man kan få en ide, og så skrive den ned. Den behøver ikke nødvendigvis at være realistisk, man kan godt skrive den som man vil, siden forfatteren selv kan bestemme om hvad de vil skrive om, om det så er et andet univers, ligesom harry potter. Fiktion bruges mest i forhold til skønlitteratur.

Bonus:
Der er også noget som hedder fanfiction, som kan læses på feks. wattpad, som er en kendt læsehjemmeside. Det er en platform hvor man kan skrive sine helt egne historier og kan publik gøre sine historier.
