The slaves feared that they would not get up the next morning, they feared the next day of harsh work. In addition, they would sleep in a cabin with leaky roofs, drafty walls and dirty floors. Most of the time, the beds were hay laid on the floor, which left the slaves with no privacy.

How slavery works is the following; first, the overseers take you away from your home, from your family, from your freedom next they take you some place to sell you for money and take you to most of the time a different country. That trip takes a very long time and you are crammed in the bottom of a ship, living in the horrible stench of urine and you are barely fead. You aren't even at the plantation yet, this is just the terrifying beginning.

Human branding is the process which a mark, usually a symbol, is burned into the skin of a living person, with the intention that the resulting scar makes it permanent. This is performed using a hot or very cold branding iron. It therefore uses the physical techniques of livestock branding on a human, either with consent as a form of a punishment or to identify an enslaved person.

Since they didn't want to do the work themselves, they had salves who did the work for them without pay. Lincoln was elected and he wanted to put a halt to slavery. The South weren't happy, so one by one, they decided to leave the Confederation.
