The character Horatio makes me think of the song "Count of Me" by Bruno Mars. Horatio is helpful and loyal to Hamlet. He is a consistent friend. As the title of the song indicates, Hamlet can count on Horatio. Horatio states, "O my lord. If he steal aught the whilst this play is playing, and 'scape detecting, I will pay the theft." Horatio is helping Hamlet with his plan and not reporting him.
Some of the song lyrics that relate are, "Find out what we are made of when we are called to help our friends in need", "you can count on me like one two three", and "if you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea, ill sail the world to find you"

The character Antony from the tragedy, Antony and Cleopatra, makes me think of the song "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia. He is constantly torn between his love for Cleopatra and his duty to his city. In Rome, he is seen as someone who is full of reason, with a straight head on his shoulders. However, when he is with Cleopatra he is blinded by passion, infatuated with her and her own city. For instance, he states, "Hear me, Queen: The strong necessity of time commands our services awhile, but my full heart remains with you" From Act 1, Scene 3. Even when he is forced t go back to Rome, he claims that he will remain loyal, and thinking of his love the entire time. As the play continues, it is revealed that his soldiers begin to notice his lack of loyalty to Julius Ceasar and Rome and his increasing infatuation with Cleopatra... which will he choose?

The character Romeo from Romeo and Juliet makes me think of Can't Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley. Romeo is immediately smitten by Juliet. He calls her his "bright angel" and even after learning she is a Capulet he still visits her because he loves her. He says," I have night's cloak to hide me from their eyes; and but thou love me, let them find me here; my life were better ended by their hate, than death prorogued wanting of ty love" ( Scene 2). The song lyrics are "Wise men say only fools rush in. But I can't help falling in love with you....... take my whole life too" which is exactly what is happening to Romeo. He's risking his life just to see Juliet.

For my song I decided to choose "Circle of life" from the Lion King soundtrack. While reading Hamlet I was reminded of the plot of the Lion King because Simba, just like Hamlet is grieving the loss of his father, the king. Hamlet feels betrayed by his mother who remarries quickly and is blind-sighted by the violent and quick death of his father. Hamlet is convinced that his father was killed and plans to find his killer, he becomes obsessed with this plan which leads Polonius to undermine Hamlet by convincing people hes gone mad. By getting caught up in this obsession Hamlet is refusing to move on with his life, getting stuck in his current situation instead of moving forward to the future. "It's the circle of life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love"

Megan For my song I chose Ghost by Badflower. Since the play centers around a ghost that draws in the rest of the characters this seemed like an obvious choice. The song says, "Take the blade away from me, I am a freak, I am afraid that All the blood escaping me won't end the pain and I'll be haunting all the lives that cared for me. I died to be the white ghost of the man that I was meant to be." This reminds me of ghost hamlet because he haunts the people around him, even the ones closest to him such as his son. The work of the ghost consumes and fascinates the people around him, somewhat haunting them.

The character Edmund from the tragedy King Lear makes me think of the song "Ain't No Rest For the Wicked". Edmund is Gloucester's illegitimate son. Throughout the play he plots against Edgar (Gloucester's legitimate son) to make it seem as if Edgar is plotting to execute him, but in reality it is Edmund who frames Edgar. "My cue is villainous melancholy, with a sigh like Tom o' Bedlam-O, these eclipses do portend these divisions. " Act 1, Scene 2. Edmund explains how his acts are founded from evil melancholy. Edmund is trying to be the legitimate son that Edgar always was. And by this he results to a villainous plan to take down Edgar making Edmund seem as the heroic son. Edmund is wicked and he has no time to rest if he wants to make his way through life.

In act 2 of Hamlet, Hamlet begins to develop his wariness of his uncle rise to being king as well as his and his mother’s marriage. The song Numb by Linkin Park demonstrates this. With lines like from the song like, “ become so tired, so much more aware”. This lines is repeated many times emphasizing the pain. Relating to hamlet this showcases how Hamlet feels like he is being manipulated by his uncle and mother. As well as his uncle and mother feeling as though he is not okay and demonstrate some concern for him. This song helps showcase the inner feelings of someone who feels like a disappointment with lyrics like “ 'Cause everything that you thought I would be/ Has fallen apart right in front of you”. And because of ghost and what he said Hamlet feels like he needs to act and begins to form a plan with the actors help. The song represents this through lines like “I'm tired of being what you want me to be”.

After reading act 1, scene 5 in Hamlet, I started thinking about themes. When the ghost suggested that Hamlet should get revenge on Claudius for killing King Hamlet, it made me think about vengeance. This reminded me of a song by Guns N' Roses lead guitarist, Slash. The song, "Vengeance Is Mine," by Alice Cooper and Slash clearly relates to the theme of revenge in Hamlet. Alice Cooper sings, "Vengeance is mine, mine, mine. To forgive is divine. Not as rewarding I find. Because vengeance is mine," insinuating that revenge is a much better option than forgiveness. In Hamlet, the ghost suggests that revenge is the best way for Hamlet to appropriately avenge his father's death.

Legends Never Die, by Against the Current, explains Hamlet’s feelings about his late father, King Hamlet. He feels as though he may be the only one that truly remembers his father. The lyrics showcase this in the chorus, “Legends never die, they become a part of you.” He admires his father very much and considers him one of the great “legends” to live. He feels as though his father is a part of him and he must deliver the justice a true legend deserves. As legends must always “When everything's lost, they pick up their hearts and avenge defeat,” Hamlet now believes it is his duty to avenge his father since King Hamlet could not do it himself. Furthermore, as the lyrics suggest, “Legends never die when the world is calling you / Can you hear them screamin' out your name?” His father, in ghost form, has called out to Hamlet to pick himself up, finish what was started, continue his legacy, and embed him as a legend.

"I k*ll Children" by Dead Kennedys is a satirical punk rock song from the late 1970's that captures Titus Andronicus character. This is especially present in the end of Act 4 and in act 5. The play Titus Andronicus reveals how there exists a cycle of revenge that never stops. In act 1 it is revealed that Titus has had 21 sons whom have died in wars fighting for Rome against the goths. Titus captures the Goths queen, Tamora and takes her and her sons prisoner. He then kills one of her children to make up for the 21 sons he has lost, just like in the son with the lyrics " I K*ll Children and make their mama's cry". This starts a never ending cycle of revenge as Tamora plots against the Andronici Family eventually leading to the execution of two of Titus's sons and the rape and mutilation of his one and only daughter Lavinia. This then sparks rage in Titus as he says in Act 3 scene 1 lines 275 "Then which way shall I find Revenge’s cave?". This justice seeking trait of Titus can be seen in the lyrics " Ever wanted to die?//Of course you have// But I won't till I get my revenge" This part speaks directly to Titus as he plots his revenge. The song lyrics go on to say " Things I never saw before//Make me see them for the s**t they are// Take as many as I can away with me// Anyone can be king for a day" This part shows the betrayal of Rome and the royal family for all the horrendous things that have happened to the Andronici family even though Titus sacrificed much for Rome. The "I K*ll children" song directly correlates with Titus's plan as he plots to 🤬 Tamora's two sons-- the ones who raped and mutilated Lavinina as well as wage war on the royal family. "I K*ll chilldren// Can hardly wait for yours"
