I'm making connections to what I'm reading by using text-to-world. I'm connecting to the world in a few ways. First, the loss of color, throughout the community signifies people that can't have simple everyday items that you have. Second, the thing known as release being death, signifies that death is release for the old, and young, but punishment for the ones that have committed crimes. Page 94

The second main event is the first time that The Giver shared a memory with Jonas. The third main event is when Jonas makes his decision.

I think the characters are really well developed in this book for a couple of reasons. First, Jonas goes from a well educated, level headed 12 year old boy, to a distraught, burdened boy with the weight of the world on his shoulders, That is a big change for an entire book, and he changes drastically too. Second, the Giver goes from a tired old man to a more level headed man, with less weight on his shoulders.

I love the plot because its very complicated, but simple at the same time. It's complicated because at first, you don't really have an idea of what's going to be happening in the book, so you are constantly making guesses and its hard to get a grasp of whats going on. Its simple because once you get more into the book, the plot slowly starts to unravel, and reveal itself.

I think the theme of this book is a great one. It's saying that sometimes things are better complicated than simple. Jonas lived the first 12 years of his life very simple, and then is suddenly thrown into this mess of memories. As these memories keep coming, he realizes how plain his life was before all of this, and wished that the rest of the community could see how he sees things.

The style of writing that the author used is a good style of writing. It kept me, and a lot of other people interested in the book. What she did was she kept the reader in the dark most of the time, and revealed all of the mysteries very dramatically.
