Abstinence is not having any form of sex play with a partner. The only way to be positive you will not get an unexpected pregnancy or STD, is to stay abstinence. It is 100% effective in preventing pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. It is a daily choice you make, remind yourself why you chose to be abstinent, and think about the consequences. "If you are tempted to have sex, it helps to remember why you made the decision to be abstinent in the first place".

There are pros and cons to each method of birth control. "Before choosing a birth control method, think about: your overall health, how often you have sex, the numbers of sex partners you have, if you want to have children someday, how well each method works to prevent pregnancy, possible side effects, your comfort level with using the method". The most effective birth controls can possibly fail, but the chances of getting pregnant are the lowest if you use the right methods.

"Only condoms have been proven to reduce the risk of getting some STDs". Human papilloma is the most common STD, or HPV, no methods of contraception can prevent the spread of an HPV,since it can affect areas outside of the condom area. Wearing a condom every time you have sex can lower the risk of getting a disease.
