From quads and razors to Tacomas and jeeps. My brother heavily influenced me to love them. The only downside to that I've never been until last August. On my birthday my brother told me he would take me in his Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Off-road. I was so happy I couldn't sleep that night. We went to  San Gabriel Canyon in Azusa, CA. It was so beautiful, full of green everywhere, full of life. We went on the first trail and it was so fun. I didn't get any pictures on my phone because I was too distracting having fun. Then we went to a mud trail in one of my brother's friends' razors and I was drenched in mud and water. It was such a great experience and would recommend going off-roading one day. 

I benefited a lot from this trip, Instead of being on my PS4 or on my phone, I was out in the wilds exploring. I was having fun with my family and friends without social media. People need to escape normal life sometimes and go camp. travel, and explore the beautiful world we live in. This book starts with him getting dropped off at the Stampede Trail(P.5) by a man named Jim Gallien on Tuesday, April 28, 1992. Jim was first worried about the young man dying of starvation, but he thought to himself that any "normal" man would just go back to the road and ask for help so he didn't bother to. But he did give his old work boots to Christopher to add on to the minimal(P.5) stuff he had packed in his backpack. As crazy as this trip sounded Christopher was excited(P.6) to start his journey on traveling and living off the earth. 

Analysis: I tend to think there was something wrong with Christopher but then I think about my dreams and how I would do anything to accomplish them. It took guts to leave a wealthy life to exceed your goals and live happily. Money can't buy happiness but it does make it easier, Why would he burn it? Christopher is a different person but I admire his braveness and his heart.

They go hunt where there's a bus(P.10) labeled "Bus 142" where they hunt on. They take their off-roading vehicles then use ATVs meant for the Alaskan cold. They go to the bus where they stumbled a woman and a man who looked spooked(p.12). These people didn't go inside the bus but stumbled upon a note reading S.O.S. In this note, it basically said he was on the verge of death and needed help. The two men then saw a blue sleeping bag and inside of it was the lifeless(p.9) body of Chris Mccandless. The body was taken to Anchorage to see the cause of death. Poor Chris died of starvation(p.14). Behind him, he left a rifle, a plastic box of shells, eight or nine paperback books, some torn jeans, cooking utensils, and a backpack. And so his journey begins.

Analysis: I can't imagine how Chris felt from dying of starvation. I hate the feeling of waking up hungry, imagine how he felt. I also think it was smart of the guy With the 8 wheeled vehicle to leave the remains there so they could investigate what happened. I can't believe Chris weighed 68 pounds at 5'8. His bones must've been sticking out of his body.

Right away Wayne And Alex hit it off and so the journey begins. Wayne said if he ever needed work(P.19) he would be delighted to hire him. Chris was a Hardworking man who didn't mind getting his hands dirty. Chris called this small Town home(P.19) because He knew everyone and felt free here. Chris graduated College and was now on the move to a great future. His parents offered to pay for law school but he declined, They also offered him a new car where he said this was irrelevant(P.20) because he had a perfectly good car already. This is when Chris had enough and started planning his Journey to disappear(P.21).

Analysis: At the beginning of this chapter I thought Chris was crazy for leaving his great and promising life to be a hitchhiker with little to no money but now I respect him. His parents offered him to pay for law school, I would've taken that in a heartbeat. THen his Parents said they would buy him a new car. What! He said no to this? But Chris felt disconnected from his family. He was an outsider in his "perfect" life. See Chris Called Carthage his home because he knew everybody And could be himself. Now that's a perfect life.

Ernie Didn't pay Chris so that led to his suspicious(P.26) act to steal a bike from Ernie then leave it abandoned in a mall parking lot. Chris stole(P.30) the bike because Crazy Ernie never paid him so now they were even. Chris continues hichhiking when he gets a ticket (P.31) for hitchhiking. Scared to be caught he uses his parents adress to deliver the ticket. This took him to a Journey where he bought a canoe and was overjoyed(P.32) to start his new Journey. Chris gets lost and has to spend a Month alone trying to get into Mexico illegally. Chris gives up and tries to sneak in back to California where he gets caught by border control and let him go.

Analysis: I dont get why Chris abandoned his car, I think he shouldve camped in there until the storm was over. He was getting so far in his Datsun but then was Forced to become a  leather tramp. I respect him to pursue buying the canoe though. That is a great way to travel through water.

In the end, Jan found everything tucked in under one of her seats. 

Analysis: I don't know why Chris decided to work at a Mcdonald's when he hates capitalism. At least work for the casinos, they paid more. I also think Chris never got the love he wanted from his parents or maybe they disappoint him. I say this because every time someones get close to Chris he pushes away. Maybe this is why he sets to journey with no one. He wants to get away from everybody because he doesn't want to be disappointed anymore.

Ron did so, he put his belongings in a garage and fled to see the wolrd. When doing this he bumped into 2 young men and he talked about Chris.They told Ron that they think his friend is dead, based on an article they read in Outside magazine. Ron was so sad he drank for the first time in 40 years and grew sick. Ron became and athiest and stopped warshiping god because he said " I couldnt believe in a god who would let something that terrible happen to a boy like Chris". 

Analysis: I feel so bad for Ron because he lost his daughter, son, then this. I see why Ron became an athiest but god gained an angel that day. I feel like he shouldve thought like that instead of hating him for it.   Its crazy how much people loved Chris. Imagine if he made it? Would he have still been this famous?

Ruess Travels the southwest, not like Chris who traveled the northwest. Ruess also loved the freedom(p.92) this life came with, he west a letter to Wayne Westberg saying " I've decided I'm going to live this life for some time to come. The freedom and simple beauty of it is just too good to pass up. The last he was heard of was from a letter from Escalante to his parents and brother saying they won't hear from him in about a month or two. There was a search party that was sent to find him but other than finding his stuff, Ruess was never seen again.

Analysis: I feel like they added this chapter to show Chris wasn't crazy at all, More people have these thoughts like Everett Ruess. This kind of makes me think if Chris got inspiration from Ruess because he did it first. Maybe Chris read about it and it sparked a light in his head. But it also has me thinking about how he was ready to die that day he did, or maybe he thought of it as a sacrifice to live his life the way he wanted.

This is where Jim Gallien saw his boots(p.99) two sizes too big on the dead body. Gallien called the troopers but was ignored because of the calls they were getting saying they knew the deceased body. Then Wayne Westerberg hears this broadcast that his friend told him to turn on and finds out about Alex. So he calls the troopers to offer up Alex's real name and social security number. Then his older brother sam gets a call(p.101) from a homocide detective saying they think it was his brother. Sam went to the police department and later said it was him. After that he had to spill the news to his parents about the dead child(p.102) they had. 

Analysis: I cant belive the pain his brother and family is about to get from hearing this news. I don't know would I would do without my brother, I don't think I can ever take that news. I also wonder if all those calls were actually people who knew Alex and what was he about. I also wonder if they are part of the book.

Krakauer makes a mistake that gets him high and hungry(p.146), which leads to him making some food. at this point, he smells something burning. It turns out to be his trashbag burning because of the match he threw in there. This causes the tent to burn and causes the temperature to drop 30 Degrees. At this point, he remembers the tent is borrowed from his father. Krakauer then explains his dad was a perfectionist, he was never fond of failure(p.148) which led to him pushing it on his kids. Just like Chris's dad, he was very hard-headed. He wanted him to go to college and be successful. Johns's dad ended up using drugs and he failed a suicide(p.149) attempt in front of him. Krakauer uses that anger to push him to climb that mountain. He packs up and sets to climb it again. He goes to the south side and finally does it. He's on top(p.153) of the devil's thumb. He takes some pictures and soaks it in, the beautiful view. After he makes it down he tries to show off to the people but they aren't impressed. They don't believe the climb he made. He gets a lift(p.154) from a man named Jim Freeman where he stayed in his van in his backyard for a while. Then he explained that when a young man had a dream he chases it not thinking about life or death. He also explains how Chris Didn't plan on dying. Mrs. Moore said it best, " he was only chasing his young, irresponsible dream."

Analysis:  This gave me some closure on Chris with his fate. Chris did not have a death wish, He had a dream. I also feel bad for John, His dad was really irresponsible. How could you try to kill yourself in front of your kid? As a matter of fact put him through the pill taking. But just like Chris's dad, we have to thank them for these men pursuing their dreams even if one ended in death.

He would go to Alaska and Ski inland from the sea across glacial ice. This is all Jon thought of now, The devil's thumb. Jon was doing this alone(p.135) just like Chris. This climb was dangerous and deadly but he wasn't planning on losing his life, Just like Chris. On his way there he Abandoned(p.136) his car a started his journey Hitchhiking all the way to the Ocean Queen which was a workboat that was going to take him to his destination. When Jon Gets there he has to be careful of the huge snow storm so he ties 10 feet curtain rods(p.138) so he wouldn't fall through the snow. The snow clears up and he finally sets on his adventure, He sets journey to climb the thumb(p.138). He started climbing but the climb came over him. He stopped and looked until his neck ached, but nothing appeared. His climb was over. 

Analysis: This chapter was meant to explain that Chris was not crazy and he didn't want to kill himself. He is just really self-driven and sets goals and will stop at nothing until those goals are accomplished. I feel like Jon is the same way, I don't think this will be the last we hear of him. I think he will finish his climb and come out alive.

They cross the river and set on the trail Chris went to find the bus. When they get there they see skeletons of porcupine and a big skeleton of a moose(p.177) who the Alaskans thought was a caribou. They also see some of Chris's belongings which were his jeans, a homemade belt he made when he got too skinny for those jeans, his nail clippers, and his hiking boots.  They spend the night camping outside the bus because it smelt too bad on the bus. They start a fire(p.180) where Chris broiled his game and cook up some moose they had cut beforehand. The men began talking about the stories of Chris and the big mistakes and his arrogance(p.180) that led him to his death. 

Analysis: It's crazy to think if Chris brought a map he would be living right now. Even if he didn't take the cable car there was shelter near him. What could've been. Also what's up with Alaskans taking the differences of Caribou and moose so seriously. Even if it was a Caribou, it was an honest mistake and he was just hungry.

He returns to what he was doing, hunting his prey and eating up. Unfortunately, Chris became really lean(p.188) because of the lean meat he was eating. Chris Started to starve of nutrients his body needed, He writes that he's weak, starving, and in great jeopardy. He gets so hungry he starts eating seeds and roots from the plants he planted and seemed to get poisoned(p.189). There were three choices on how he got poisoned. He grew so hungry that he ate seeds he brought with him from South Dakota that had grown mold and became poisonous, he ate poisoned potato seeds, or he confused his plants and ate sweet pea which is filled with toxins. His body was so weak(p.189) he couldn't fight the toxins. He was so weak that he could not hunt or gather anymore. So he writes a note saying "I HAVE HAD A HAPPY LIFE AND THANK THE LORD.  GOODBYE AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL". Sadly Chris died of Starvation(p.198) which is a really painful way to die. Your body starts feeding on your insides. Chris was found dead(p.189) on September 6, 1992, after 112 days of when he began his Journey. And so his story ends. 

Analysis: I can't believe how this story ends. He was so close but yet so far. Only if he found that cabin or that cable car he would've maybe been alive. It's crazy to think he made it 112 days. I thought this story would've ended fast but Chris surprised me.  condolences to him and his family. Starvation is a bad way to go. I can't even go 3 hours without eating, imagine dying of that. No word can describe the pain he must've went through.

He asks for a ride and their journey begins together. Stucky and McCandless arrive in Fairbanks on the afternoon of April 25th. They go to a grocery store where Stucky bought Chris a big bag of rice(p.159). Stucky told Chris to slow down because there was three feet of snow but Chris made his mind up already. Stucky took Chris to the University of Alaska where chris studies on what kind of plants he could eat, berries and things like that. Chris starts hitchhiking(p.158) and gets picked up by a man named Gallien. Gallien took him all the way to the Stampede trail. Chris Starts his Alaskan Journey and finds a bus(p.163) where he sets camp. Chris starts entries about the wild meat he catches. Chris has a big success and kills a Moose(p.166). He is so happy that he takes a picture with it.  After reading a book he finds a line that really important to him. It said happiness must be shared with others to be real. So he sets back to civilisation and packs up to the Teklanika river. It was just his luck that the river was to high to pass. so he goes back to the buss and waits. 

Analysis: This is so sad, Chris finally want to go back to his family but has to wait because the river is too high to pass. I Know Chris dies at the end but I still have some hope in my heart I cant explain. its sad to see it end like this.

Walt was very talented at Piano and still plays professionally. He is super smart but a really mean misunderstood person. Chris and him would always bud heads because they were so similar. They both had strong opinions. When Chris was 6, Walt got a job at NASA(p.104) and they moved to Virginia. 4 years later he quit and started his own company with Billie. Carine is Chris's sister who formed a close bond with him. They both experienced anger and abuse from their parents they both were really smart and strived in academics, athletics, and music. No one really knew the family was like this, they would keep the disfunction under wraps. Not even Chris's friends knew the problems he had to face. When he was 8 he grew vegetables and sold them around the neighborhood. he was really good at making money(P.116). After his junior year in high school, he was hired(p.116) by a local construction company to get more kitchens to remodel sales. He saved up his money and bought a yellow Datsun, the secondhandb210. Chris decided to take his Datsun and drive across the country alone. It was the first of many journeys across the world. This sparked his separation(p.114) from his family. 

Analysis: I hate when people say they wish they were rich, It takes a lot of sacrifices to be rich. I had a friend named Joshua back in elementary whose parents were wealthy. I invited him to my house one way and was saddened to see how his life would've been growing up in the middle class. His parents worked all day and slept all night. He barely saw them, now He never visits his family and lives in Kansas.

In the Book it says that he might have died from three ways, He grew so hungry that he ate seeds he brought with him from South Dakota that had grown mold and became poisonous, he ate poisoned potato seeds, or he confused his plants and ate sweet pea which is filled with toxins. Krakauer goes to his Diary(¶.3) to see what killed him. After a tip from a writer named Ronald Hamilton, he thinks it was a toxin called beta-ODAP. This very Lethal(¶.7) toxin was tested in Nazi concentration camps for their poisoning. He later tested this theory with a chemist at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and they found out that the seeds had a lethal concentration of a compound called beta-ODAP that has caused gradual weakening and paralysis in famine victims relying on a certain pea. They did some other tests and found out it wasn't beta-ODAp, it was L-canavanine which is an amino acid(¶.8). The plant becomes toxic(¶.16) after a certain time of the year to ward off predators and they believe Chris ate this. What we know now is to make sure what you are putting in your stomach is not bad for you because you may die, Chris would've survived(¶.20) if he knew this.

Analysis: I can't believe Krakauer put 20 years into this, Talk about dedication. Now I know how he made that climb on the devil's thumb. This should've been in Chris's book when he got it at the University of Alaska, this would've saved his life. Now we wonder what could've been. But he did survive 112 days which is pretty impressive. RIP Chris McCandless, He is gone but never forgotten.

They were going to go with Butch in his 8 wheeler but the water of the river was too high like the time Chris had to retreat back because it was too dangerous. They took a helicopter and flew over the stampede trial. When they landed they went straight to the bus to examine where Chris spend his last days in. Billie went in first and sat on the bed admiring where her son would lay. she gazes at her son's boots under the stove, his handwriting on the wall, and his toothbrush. No tears come out, Today they are no tears. they look at how beautiful everything is, it reminds them of where they grew up poor. lastly, they make a little memorial for their lost son and add food and a note employing to call your parents when future hitchhikers make this hike. They talk about how brave their son is and how it will not get easier but some days will be better than others. 

Summary: I have no idea how they didn't cry, If I lost my son and I saw where it happened I would be sobbing. It just shows how strong and professional his parents were. It was smart for them to come in a helicopter even though they wanted to follow in his footsteps. I didn't think this was how this book would end. It's such an attention grabber. Just like all the shows I Finish, I wish there was a part two.

Making it to the big leagues is what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to be great, I wanted to be the greatest in the world. I wanted what Barry sanders had, I wanted my name in the stat sheets of NFL records, and lastly, I wanted people to wear my last name. To make this goal I needed to train my butt off. I started Working on my footwork and doing at-home workouts. At the age of 15, I got my first barbell. I was so excited to finally put some weight into my workouts. At the age of 16, I finally got a gym pass and my life changed. I now know what I wanted to do with my life, I wanted to be like Arnold. 

I started with easy workouts like back squats and bench press. Then I started to look at youtube videos on how I should approach lifting. That's when I saw the picture that would change my life forever. It's the photo I used for this padlet. It's his back double bicep pose that we love so much. The dimension and thickness of his back complemented by his mountain-like Biceps shocked me. I wanted to be like Arnold. I started searching for his workouts and learned about splits. Arnold would train two times one day and the next one for 6 days out of the week. The last day of the week was meant for letting your body heal after you destroyed the tissue of your muscles. In my second week in I didn't see any results. I was getting discouraged until I Heard this quote from Arnold. "Bodybuilding is much like any other sport. To be successful, you must dedicate yourself 100% to your training, diet, and mental approach.". Just like I put everything in the line for football, I was ready to do the same with my body. So I started eating right, Pushing higher weight, and dedicating my life to making my body like Arnolds. I was so dedicated that I would skip holidays and spend my birthdays in the gym. In my peak condition before my senior year, I was 163 pounds. I felt so good about myself. Unfortunately, my senior year of football hit. I stopped training so hard and focused more on football. I stopped eating right and going to the gym. After football, I was 146 pounds and looked like a normal person with my physique. On January 1st I made a promise to myself I would train again as I trained before. It is now January 20th and I am 150 pounds. This is not where I want to be but it's the start of it. I'm not working out to compete or anything, I just want Arnold's chiseled body, and when I'm in the gym it's like all my worries are gone and I'm in my happy place. Lifting is what makes me happy. I want to be a firefighter in the future and working out will benefit that goal. I cant to wait for the day I can finally say I'm at my peak performance, until then it's back to work.
