I am a mother of a toddler, graduate student, and future educator. This is a journal of my days during the global pandemic. I welcome anyone to share their thoughts, experiences, and pictures with me as we navigate this new normal. <3

The beginning

On Monday and Tuesday, I sent Sophia (my daughter) to school so that I could clean our condo. I scrubbed everything down. Tuesday was the last day Sophia and Alex (my husband) went about their everyday lives. The last day of normalcy. I found out that the rest of my classes at Rutgers GSE for the spring semester would be held online and our commencement ceremony would be postponed. I am doubtful that it will even happen. However, I recognize how important it is to stay at home to mitigate this global crisis. Watching the news is scary. Everything is very surreal. It's time to get used to my new normal.

On Wednesday, I bought crafts for Sophia to do while at home because she loves art. I also bought some things from the Stop and Shop. Seeing the shelves empty was eerie. Seeing people with masks is disturbing.

I have planned out all of the dinners we are having until next week, which will consist of all of our fresh food. We have plenty of nonperishable foods, too. I am making a point to go outside everyday with my daughter and take time for myself by exercising. I am hoping to get some reading done, too.

The people who have been on my mind lately:
1. my mother, who is a nurse; my brother, who works for NJ Transit; I pray that they stay safe.

2. My grandparents, I want to make sure they have everything they need;

3. my peers, I miss them terribly. I cannot believe our graduate school experience came to such a screeching halt

4. My cooperating teacher, Jaclyn; she is an amazing educator and I know she is working hard to teach her students during this difficult time

5. My 4th graders!!! I miss them so much and I hope they are doing okay! I cannot imagine going through this at their age. I want them to know that I am here to support them however I can!

I took Sophia outside yesterday. This picture of her made me smile because despite all of the craziness going on in this world, there is still beauty :)

Hi I am Megan’s Mom😷. We are following the recommendations on the CDC (center for Disease Control and Prevention). It may seem scary to see people in masks all the time but even though you can’t see people’s mouths, you know when they are smiling! You can see it in their eyes! We mask to protect ourselves and to protect the public. We still deliver amazing care to our patients.

Sterilizing personal protective equipment (PPE)

You may have heard that PPE is in great demand as health care providers try to protect themselves against infection while taking care of patients. In the world prior to COVID-19, we would never reuse PPE in fear of cross contamination. Because of the shortage of PPE, innovative health care workers came up with a way to sterilize masks. We are using ultraviolet lights that are normally used to sterile patient rooms after they are sent home.
