A metaphor describes something by saying it is something that it is not. The thing that it is said to be describes it (EXAMPLE: The snow was a white blanket ). In this example, the snow is being described by saying it is a white blanket. The snow is not actually a white blanket, but saying it is describes how it covers everything, like the streets, houses, and cars.
