Emma Tupper, a 34-year-old lawyer, goes on a trip to Africa that her mother left her when she died. After falling ill and having to recover in a small village, a terrible earthquake hits while Emma is in Africa, and she is forced to stay there for 6 months instead of the planned 1 month. She comes home, expecting everything to be as it was, until she realizes that was a terrible assumption; everyone thought she had died in Africa. Her apartment has been rented off to a random man (who kindly lets Emma stay in his--and technically her--apartment until she can find another place to live), her car has been sent to the impound, and her job, her office, and her boyfriend has been taken by her nemesis, and all because everyone thought she had died back in Africa due to the earthquake. Can Emma regain the life she had before and get back to normal, or will her life and stability crumple?

Emma Tupper is a 34-year-old laywer who lives in some snowy town somewhere in Canada. She is stubborn, detail-oriented, and kind, and she fights back, as all lawyers do. She never gives up once she puts her mind to something, especially when it is a case she's handling.
Emma is a static character because while she changes her hair and her boyfriend, she's still the same lawyer she was before she got on the plane to Africa. Maybe her mental state changes, knowing she can overcome almost any big obstacle that's thrown her way, but she is mainly static; she doesn't go from a villain to a hero or vise-versa.

The setting of Forgotten is mainly Canada, but there are chapters where there are flashbacks to when Emma was in Africa. All throughout the book, it is snowing in the town in Canada where Emma Tupper is living, which means it was also freezing outside. I am assuming the book setting is in Montreal, Canada, because that's where the author, Catherine McKenzie, was born and raised. The photo above is of Africa.

Rating: 4.5

I give this book a 4.5/5 stars because I thought the plot was very unique and interesting. So many things happened that it couldn’t have been made up, or that’s at least how it feels. I don't know why, but it doesn't feel 5-star worthy, but it is definitely one of my new favorites.
