She comes home, expecting everything to be as it was, until she realizes that was a terrible assumption; everyone thought she had died in Africa. Her apartment has been rented off to a random man (who kindly lets Emma stay in his--and technically her--apartment until she can find another place to live), her car has been sent to the impound, and her job, her office, and her boyfriend has been taken by her nemesis, and all because everyone thought she had died back in Africa due to the earthquake.           Emma Tupper, the main character, thought this. She was thinking about how her life has been getting back to normal after there was an earthquake in Africa near her and people thought she was dead. It is important because her life has finally been getting back to normal when she thought it never would. 
          There was an entire chapter (or maybe a few paragraphs) about her thinking about how her life would never get back to the way it was; that she would never be happy again.

Emma is a static character because while she changes her hair and her boyfriend, she's still the same lawyer she was before she got on the plane to Africa. I am assuming the book setting is in Montreal, Canada, because that's where the author, Catherine McKenzie, was born and raised. I give this book a 4.5/5 stars because I thought the plot was very unique and interesting. So many things happened that it couldn’t have been made up, or that’s at least how it feels. I don't know why, but it doesn't feel 5-star worthy, but it is definitely one of my new favorites.
